Comedian Bill Maher is certainly no fan of President Donald Trump or conservatives in general, but the HBO star is also not afraid to call out extreme leftists when he feels like it.
On Friday’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” the 63-year-old comedian — a millionaire who seems to think an economic recession is worth it if it gets rid of Trump — targeted Reps. Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, and other extreme leftists for their views on Israel.
Maher, whose mother was Jewish though he describes himself as an atheist, slammed the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement as a “bullsh*t purity test” for extremist Democrats.
On the latest installment of his long-running talk show, Maher asked his panel if it was “fair” to boycott Israel because of recent comments made by Tlaib and Omar. When none of his panelists directly answered the question, Maher gave it a go himself.
“It’s a bullsh*t purity test, BDS is a bullsh*t purity test by people who want to appear ‘woke’ but actually slept through history class,” Maher said. The comment actually earned cheers from Maher’s typically left-wing audience.
The “Religulous” star continued, “It’s predicated on this notion … I think it’s very shallow thinking that the Jews in Israel are mostly white and Palestinians are mostly brown, so they must be innocent and correct and the Jews must be wrong. As if the occupation came right out of the blue, that this ‘completely peaceful people’ found themselves occupied. Forget about the intifadas and the suicide bombings and the rockets and how many wars.”
Maher’s thoughts were clearly not on-the-spot criticisms as he went on to quote BDS movement founder Omar Barghouti as saying, “No Palestinian — rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian — will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”
Maher added, “So that’s where that comes from, this movement. Someone who doesn’t even want a Jewish state at all. Somehow this side never gets represented in the American media. It’s very odd.”
Maher, who is highly critical of restrictive laws in the Middle East despite being a Democrat, went on to note that Saudi Arabia doesn’t let Jewish people into the kingdom and the Jewish population in several Middle Eastern countries has been quickly moving downward for years.
“And Congresswoman Omar has said things like, ‘It’s all about the Benjamins,’ ‘Israel has hypnotized the world,’ ‘May Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel.’ She apologized for it, but it’s out there,” he said.
He then added, half-jokingly, “I see why they don’t get a hero’s welcome.”
Both Tlaib and Omar have been accused of antisemitism numerous times since they have joined Congress.
Tlaib and Omar were both planning a trip to Israel, but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a ban on the two congresswomen based on their past comments on Israel and their ties to anti-Israel groups.

Tlaib then tried playing politics by saying she was being kept away from her grandmother. Netanyahu ended up granting Tlaib permission to visit her grandmother, but Tlaib then used the entire situation to blast Israel, clearly never intending to visit her relative in the first place.
This woman right here is my sity. She deserves to live in peace & with human dignity. I am who I am because of her. The decision by Israel to bar her granddaughter, a U.S. Congresswoman, is a sign of weakness b/c the truth of what is happening to Palestinians is frightening. pic.twitter.com/GGcFLiH9N3

President Trump quickly called the congresswoman on the whole situation and said Tlaib’s grandmother was lucky she wouldn’t have to deal with her.
