Trump vows to ‘always uphold the Second Amendment’ amid Dem demands for gun control

President Trump promised his supporters in New Hampshire that he would “always uphold the Second Amendment” in the face of escalating attacks on gun owners by the left.

“We can’t make it harder for good, solid, law-abiding citizens to protect themselves,” Trump said. “We will always uphold the right to self-defense. And we will always uphold the Second Amendment.”

President Trump was reacting to mounting calls for stricter gun-control laws in the wake of the recent mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio.

While many Democrats want to confiscate guns from law-abiding gun owners, Trump remarked: “It’s not the gun that pulls the trigger. It’s the person that pulls the trigger.”

The president then suggested that a greater focus on mental health could stem gun violence. Trump has also said he supports stronger background checks.

As BizPac Review reported, gun-rights group warned Trump that he could alienate some of his base by passing overly restrictive gun-control laws.

The Gun Owners of America (GOA) has more than 2 million members nationwide. The Second-Amendment advocacy group urged Trump to reject calls for more gun control, saying “gun control” would only restrict the rights of law-abiding gun owners. Why? Because criminals always find a way to get their hands on guns.

Want proof? Multiple shootings occur every weekend in the Democratic-led city of Chicago — which has among the toughest gun-control laws in the United States.

Similarly, this week’s shooting of six police officers in Philadelphia (which has strict gun-control laws) underscores that these laws don’t deter criminals. The suspect in the Philadelphia shootings has been arrested a dozen times, with six convictions involving illegal gun possession.

barack obama mass shootings
Where was the leftist outrage when mass shootings erupted under Barack Obama?

Predictably, Democrats like Senator Kamala Harris (who’s running for president) reacted by immediately pushing for more gun control.

Harris said: “I am prepared to take executive action to (1) put in place a comprehensive background check requirement; (2) put the resources into the ATF to take the licenses from gun dealers who violate the law, and (3) to ban the importation of assault weapons in our country.”

When Harris claimed that her 2020 gun policies could have prevented the Philadelphia shootings, she was immediately smacked down on Twitter. Here’s a couple of epic clap-backs disproving Harris’ ridiculous claim:

“The firefight erupted after a narcotics officer attempted serve a warrant to a house. For Kamala to assume that a drug dealer would abide by gun laws and would therefore not shoot at cops is beyond absurd.”

“Another gun control law definitely would’ve stopped the <checks notes> drug dealer who tried to murder police officers from breaking the law.”

Reminder: An El Paso shooting survivor told CNN opinion host Chris “Fredo” Cuomo that he wishes his “gun-toting” mother had brought her gun with her during their trip to the El Paso Walmart.

While the Left demands more gun control, they ignore that most mass shootings take place in “gun-free” zones, and that criminals will always find a way to get their hands on a gun — no matter what laws are in place.

Gun-control laws only limit the Second Amendment rights of people who obey the law in the first place.
