Philly residents reportedly taunt and harass officers during active cop shooting

A crowd of what appeared to be local residents allegedly harassed, taunted, and threw objects at Philadelphia Police Department officers Wednesday evening as they reportedly worked to resolve a standoff with a dangerous, armed suspect who’d already shot six officers.

The evidence is twofold.

Video footage shared to Twitter late Wednesday evening by an unverified account shows a crowd of unruly, disrespectful locals harassing officers allegedly outside of the apartment building where Maurice Hill, a Philadelphia man with a lengthy history of crime, was holed up.

Watch:

“[The standoff] started sometime around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday when police attempted to serve a narcotics warrant at a home along the 3700 block of North 15th Street in the Tioga-Nicetown section of the city,” local station WPVI reported. “Police officers entered the house, and once in the kitchen area, located towards the rear of the residence, gunshots rang out, authorities said.”

“The shooter fired multiple rounds. Officers returned fire – many of whom had to escape through windows and doors to get away from a barrage of bullets,” Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross reportedly said.

Six officers were reportedly injured. What followed was an hours-long standoff during which locals harassed the officers, according to local journalist Alexandria Hoff.

A major moment of disappointment this evening was watching a crowd of people taunt police officers, laughing and yelling at them in the midst of the gunfire,” she tweeted late Wednesday evening.

What’s unclear and had yet to be verified as of Thursday morning was whether the harassment and taunting mentioned by Hoff, a verified journalist, were the same as the harassment and taunting seen in the video up top. The evidence suggests they were.

In the video, you can see a bus for the Precious Babies Learning Academy:

Records show that this academy/daycare is located in Philadelphia and has one location in the exact same spot where the altercation occurred (the 3700 block of North 15th Street):

Moreover, the bus lists a phone number with a 215 area code, and records show that this area code primarily services the city of Philadelphia.

As of Thursday morning, both the video seen up top and the tweets by Hoff had received zero mainstream media attention. However, Hoff’s tweets had attracted the anger of left-wing activists (some of them alleged journalists) who felt that her tweets were racist.

What is your angle with saying this?” one activist wrote. “The entire situation is disappointing. Also not everyone acted that way. Let’s just report the news please and not fan the flames of tensions between the police and folks living there.”

A true journalist should have no other angle other than to report the truth. However, the left now appears to believe that a journalist should only report those aspects of the truth that are conducive to its own political interests and preferred narratives.

To be clear, the left’s preferred narratives are that all police officers are racist (fact-check: FALSE), that criticizing any minority or group of minorities is likewise racist, and that anytime a minority acts disrespectful toward (or even attacks) the police, it’s justified.

Alexandria gave in to her base…or rather trumps base – sadly racism is prevalent and will eventually come out, even with the polite ones,” another activist wrote.

The left also appears to believe that reporting those aspects of the truth that aren’t conducive to its political interests and preferred narratives makes one a supporter of President Donald Trump.
