‘This IS formal impeachment proceedings’: Nadler plays impressive word games

House Judiciary Chairman Rep. Jerrold Nalder, D-N.Y., continues to play a game of semantics when it comes to his partisan effort to impeach President Donald Trump.

Having been bumped from the headlines this week by the liberal media’s rabid ploy to blame the president for a pair of shootings last weekend, Nadler appeared on CNN to find his way back onto the front page, claiming his committee has begun “formal impeachment proceedings.”

CNN anchor Erin Burnett asked Nadler about an impeachment inquiry and he tossed an impressive word salad as recounting his witch hunt, which is effectively a rehash of the two year, $35 million-plus Robert Mueller probe

“Well, I think it’s important not to get hung up on semantics,” Nadler said. “The fact is, we are doing an investigation. We are investigating the facts, investigating the evidence. We are going into court to get witnesses. All with a view toward deciding and recommending to the House whether to impeach the president.”

What is clear, based on his own words, is that Democrats have yet to decide to pursue impeachment.

When asked if House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., who has been slow to support impeachment, is “there,” Nadler was careful in choosing his words.

“She is cooperating with the committee’s investigation,” the chairman replied.

With Mueller eliminating the Russian collusion hoax, Nadler is left to hang his hat on obstruction of justice in pursuing Trump, and he filed a lawsuit Wednesday in federal court to force former White House counsel Donald McGahn to testify, challenging the White House argument that McGahn has “absolute immunity.”

In effect, Democrats are hoping to shake the bush to see what runs out. Trump had told McGahn to cooperate fully with Mueller’s investigation, but directed him not to testify to Congress unless the White House and the Judiciary Committee reached an accommodation.

When pressed by Burnett on whether they are pursuing impeachment, Nadler tried to claim that they are — he had just said they were still deciding on the matter.

“This is formal impeachment proceedings,” Nadler said. “We are investigating all the evidence, we’re gathering the evidence and we will reach conclusion of this, hopefully by the end of the year, vote to, vote articles of impeachment to the House floor or we won’t. That’s a decision that we’ll have to make. But that — that’s exactly the process we’re in right now.”

Except that the Judiciary Committee has yet to draft articles of impeachment, or send them to the House for a full vote — with Democrats controlling the panel, this would be but a formality.

Somewhat surprisingly — this is CNN — Burnett pursued this reality.

“So when you say it’s formal impeachment proceedings have you drafted or started preparing articles of impeachment should you need them?” she asked.

“There are articles of impeachment introduced a number of months ago and referred to the committee,” Nadler said. “As the investigation proceeds, we may want to draft our own articles of impeachment that may more closely fit the evidence. We’ll see.”
