Sen. Mitch McConnell was the target of backlash over the weekend’s tragic mass shootings as a new nickname surfaced on social media.

In the wake of the El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio shootings which claimed over 30 lives, critics slammed the Senate Majority Leader for blocking gun control legislation, sending the hashtag #MassacreMitch trending on Twitter.

New York Times writer and CNN contributor, Wajahat Ali, noted but then deleted a tweet praising the ‘MassacreMoscowMitch’ trend.

The tweet was slammed by those noting the left’s hypocrisy in supposedly condemning violent rhetoric.

McConnell has been nicknamed “Grim Reaper” and more recently “Moscow Mitch,” but the latest comes as the weekend’s shootings have focused the left’s anger on the Kentucky Republican and President Trump, with many outrageously laying the blame for the tragedies at their feet.

The #MassacreMitch hashtag was the top national trending topic on Twitter late Sunday and into Monday, following the shootings which McConnell condemned as “senseless” and “horrifying” in tweets.

But his words sparked knee-jerk reactions from the left citing his blocking of a House-passed gun control measure from coming up on the Senate floor for a vote.

Massachusetts Democrat and 2020 contender Sen. Elizabeth Warren slammed McConnell in a tweet asking “how many more people need to die.”

“Mitch McConnell needs to get off his ass and do something,” Rep. Tim Ryan told CNN.

“People are getting killed in the streets of America and nobody is acting,” the Ohio Democrat who dropped out of the 2020 presidential race over the weekend, said.

Meanwhile, McConnell has not publicly addressed the accusations as his team indicated that the 77-year-old is currently recovering from a fractured shoulder following a fall in his home.

But the left’s grandstanding on violence and McConnell’s lack of action fly in the face of the hypocritical protests dogging the Republican leader. Protesters chanted “Moscow Mitch” at a picnic attended by the senator on Saturday and showed up at his home Sunday, shouting death threats as they demanded stricter gun control.

Several unbelievable videos posted by Daily Wire’s Ryan Saavedra captured the graphic language and calls for violence against the senator.

Other videos posted were filled with expletives and foul language aimed at the congressman and his wife.  There were even young children holding anti-McConnell signs as part of the protest.

The left’s double standard in using violent threats while condemning violent rhetoric was slammed by Twitter users.
