MAGA hat wearing man says he was brutally attacked by a pack of teens in NYC

A New York City man was allegedly brutally beaten by a mob of teens in southern Manhattan early Tuesday evening because of the newly purchased “Make America Great Again” hat he’d been wearing.

“I was walking on Canal [Street], it was some sort of event and I got jumped for wearing this hat,” victim Jahangir Turan, 42, told local station WNYW afterward.

“He started cursing at me — saying ‘Trump hat, blah, blah, blah’ — and basically, one kid took my head and bashed it against a scaffolding pole. It all happened within ten seconds. I jumped out, crossed the street and then called the cops. This is my situation right now.”

The gang of 15 teens also reportedly yelled “f–k Trump” at him, according to WYNW.

“Turan says he suffered a fracture in his cheek and a badly swollen eye. He’s awaiting an eye specialist to determine if there is any permanent damage to his sight,” the station reported.

Thanks to the assault, he’s reportedly not so sure anymore about wearing his MAGA hat in public. Granted, he’d never even intended to wear it in public in the first place.

“I wanted to put it on my TV stand. I had no intentions of wearing it in New York City, because it’s dangerous to wear a hat like this in New York City,” he said to another local station, WCBS.

“That’s kind of ridiculous, to get beat up like this for wearing a hat,” he added. “This is America, you know? Everybody has their right. To wear a hat like this, this can happen to you. That’s sad.”

Sad, yes, but also typical in an America dominated by both an arguably complicit political party and glaringly partisan mainstream media establishment that endlessly promote hatred against President Donald Trump and his supporters.

Speaking with the New York Daily News, Turan offered further details about the alleged assault.

They beat me up for wearing the hat,” he said. “They were saying ‘Why are you wearing that?’ One girl flipped the hat off my head, and I tried to grab it. Then they came after me. One guy grabbed me from behind and slammed my head against a metal post.”

Both the Democrat Party and its media allies have falsely portrayed the MAGA hat as a symbol of white supremacy, racism and hatred. Coinciding with the propagation of this lie has been a rise in attacks against those Americans, some of color, who do choose to wear a MAGA hat.

In fact, only days before the alleged assault on Turan, Democrat Party officials in one Illinois county reportedly posted a meme to Facebook that compared the MAGA hat to Ku Klux Klan hoods:

What’s troubling is that stories like the one above — not to mention the alleged assault on Turan — tend to receive either very limited or no coverage at all from the mainstream media.

Take ABC, CBS and NBC. According to the media watchdog group NewsBusters, instead of reporting the assault, this week they were busy speculating whether the president’s supporters would chant purportedly racist slogans at his since-passed rally Thursday evening in Cincinnati, Ohio.

“Many on social media were pointing out the hypocrisy of the liberal media for instinctually pouncing on the alleged assault of former Empire actor Jussie Smollett by alleged Trump supporters, which turned out to a massive hoax, and their silence on this latest attack,” the group noted.

This isn’t to say that Turan’s story doesn’t need to be checked out. Police are still conducting an investigation, and there are admittedly certain facts about the case that seem troubling.

“Police confirmed Turan filed a police report but only said he was attacked by a man who punched him in the head and fled. He did not provide details about any statement the suspect may have made, nor that he was wearing a MAGA hat at the time,” the New York Post reported.

He also reportedly “refused medical attention at the scene.”

The fact that he didn’t mention the MAGA hat to police and that he refused medical treatment is odd. So is his inability to provide a description of his attackers.

“It happened too quick,” he told the Daily News. “I didn’t have time to think. The cops were like, ‘Can you ID them?’ And I couldn’t. It was just this guy being a punk. It’s almost like he just did it because all his boys were there.”

However, a police officer confirmed to the outlet “that the department is actively investigating Turan’s case and said his statements have been consistent to police and they have no reason to doubt his story.

But the issue here isn’t about the claims’ legitimacy or lack thereof. It’s about relevancy. Why is it that the same media that felt it relevant to broadcast Smollett’s dubious allegations to the world — and that also felt it important enough to smear a group of high school boys based on flimsy evidence — has no interest in even reporting what happened to Turan, let alone investigating it?
