Tour of migrant detention center shows library, soccer field, other accommodations that contradict Dem accounts

A recent tour of a California migrant detention facility showed conditions that were greatly at odds with descriptions from Democrats, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s already infamous “concentration camps” rant.

Fox News was given access to an immigration detention facility in Adelanto, California and with video cameras allowed inside the facility, detention facilities across America were shown in a very different light than in some other recent reports.

The facility, which is one of 31 in the country, is run by the privately-contracted company GEO Group.

Fox News was given a tour of the facility by Thomas Giles, acting director of ICE’s Los Angeles field office.

The tour will be surprising to anyone buying into AOC’s “concentration camp” theory. The facility toured by Fox had round-the-clock access to health care, dental care, and mental health care. Detainees also reportedly have access to unlimited phone calls, legal counsel, a law library, religious services, outdoor recreation, and physical contact visits with loved ones.

The tour showed that common areas for detainees not only had phones, but also directories with contact information for embassies, legal services and even a grievance line for DHS’ Office of Inspector General.

“For me it is great. I can see my family, hug my family, at (prison facility) I couldn’t hug my family, they were coming from an hour and a half away to Orange, with traffic and all of that stuff, you know,” detainee Noel Beltran of El Salvador said about the facility, “A half an hour, sometimes 25 minutes, 21 minutes, it would get cut off real quick, behind the glass. Right here I have contact with my family, I can hug my kids.”

Fox also reported seeing detainees playing XBOX, as well as playing soccer on a field outside. They also reported that no detainees were locked inside their cells during the tour.

Giles said he and others are doing everything they can to keep illegal immigrants “safe” while they are detained.

“I want people to know that when these individuals are detained here we’re giving them the care and custody that they need. We’re going to do everything we can to keep the individuals safe while they’re detained here,” he said.

At the end of his report, Fox News reporter Griff Jenkins said, “Director Giles said, ‘I hope that … the lawmakers who criticize our facilities and our handling of these detainees for which we have made health care and care a priority, we hope these lawmakers will see your piece, Griff.'”

He added that Giles put out an open invitation for lawmakers to visit the same facility Fox toured or any other facilities they may be criticizing.

The conditions shown in the Fox report greatly differ from the accounts of Democrat lawmakers who have toured facilities.

After recently touring a facility, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took to Twitter to say the experience was “horrifying.”

“This has been horrifying so far. It is hard to understate the enormity of the problem,” she tweeted. “We’re talking systemic cruelty (with) a dehumanizing culture that treats them like animals.”

Ilhan Omar has also said that animals are treated better than illegal immigrants are in detention facilities.
