Sidney Powell, the attorney who represents former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn, blasted former special counsel Robert Mueller’s performance during Wednesday’s hearings before Congress.
“It was just appalling from every perspective on every level. It was an embarrassment for Mr. Mueller to allow his credibility and integrity to be put behind this investigation build on a fraud,” Powell said.
A Mueller critic, Powell appeared on Fox Business Network’s “Lou Dobbs Tonight” to discuss the Democrat-led dog an pony show that proved to be disastrous for them, in large part because Mueller was not very sharp and often appeared befuddled — the biggest take away seemed to be that Mueller did not seem to know what was in his own report.
Host Lou Dobbs, a Trump supporter, characterized the Russian collusion probe as “a straightforward effort to tear up a sitting president of the United States.”
A former federal prosecutor, Powell chimed in to repeat earlier accusations she has made that Mueller was the “insurance policy” that disgraced former FBI agent Peter Strzok and his lover, FBI attorney Lisa Page, discussed in an August 2016 text message.
The text from Strzok read: “I want to believe the path you threw out in [former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe’s] office — that there’s no way he gets elected — but I’m afraid we can’t take the risk. It’s like an insurance policy in the unlikely event you die before you’re 40.”
When asked where it goes from here, Powell spoke of the need for “serious criminal ramifications” for those who orchestrated the Russian collusion hoax.
“Attorney General [William] Barr and [U.S. Attorney John]Durham have their work cut out for them,” Powell said. “Because to restore any faith in the justice system at all in this country and to restore the rule of law, they’re going to have to be serious criminal ramifications for the people who lied on the FISA warrants [and] abused power.”
Barr tapped Durham to lead a separate investigation into the origins of the bureau’s 2016 Russia case that laid the foundation for Mueller’s probe, In effect, to investigate the investigators.
Dobbs accurately noted that there has been no accountability.
“Even McCabe, who was the subject of a criminal referral for flat-out lying under oath, according to the inspector general. Nothing’s happened there yet and he’s still running around on a book tour,” Powell said.
“The double standard is appalling,” she added.
Flynn pleaded guilty last year to lying to the FBI about his interactions with Russia’s ambassador to the United States before Trump took office.
“And James Comey is at large, looking as much like a Russian disinformation agent as he can possibly [be],” Dobbs chimed in.
Powell summed things up by explaining just how big a task the attorney general has in righting this ship.
“Mr. Barr needs to be both Hercules, to clean out the [King] Augean stables, and Atlas because he’s carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders right now,” she said. “I mean the future of our republic depends on restoring the rule of law.”
