After several attempts, determined veteran climbs flagpole to fix American flag at Navy SEAL monument

If you thought that climbing a rope back in high school gym class was difficult, wait til you see what Navy SEAL veteran Dom Raso was forced to climb this week in service to his nation.

In an Instagram post uploaded Thursday, Raso revealed that he’d been on a 3.5 mile morning run when he’d encountered an American flag flying loose at the Navy SEAL Monument in Virginia Beach. Flying loose in the sense that the bottom portion of the flag had come unhooked from the pole.

See how only the top portion of the flag was hooked?

Raso had a choice to make. He could either let “Old Glory” continue flying like this, or he could climb up the thick pole with his bare hands and fix it. As a true patriot, he opted for option two, though executing this mission was no joke.

“After a 3.5 mile run and smoked from the previous attempts, This was my 4th attempt at trying to get up and fix the flag,” he wrote as a caption to his Instagram post.

“Literally had to visualize what I was doing wrong and what I had to do to correct my inefficiencies in order to improve for the next attempt.”

Watch his fourth and final attempt below:

That looked like hell on Earth. Notice how he had to stop several times on the way up just to catch his breath. Keep in mind he’s a highly trained professional with the strength and body of a Greek God.

Continuing his post Thursday, Raso explained why he’d put himself through all this.

“I couldn’t go by this flag this morning and not give it everything I had,” he wrote. “The gold stars on this monument and the sacrifice that has been made for all us was something I wasn’t just going to pass by. This flag pole climb reminded me about EVERYTHING in life.”

“There has been way to grave of sacrifice for me not to try. Once I do try I have to give it my ALL for them. If I fail…honor them by trying one more time and get better every time I do it.”

In another post added shortly thereafter, he decided to delve a little into politics by reminding his fellow patriots that “[a]s long as this country continues to have great men and women willing to step up to do what is right, we will always prevail” against “mainstream confusion, complacency, and ignorance.”

“It doesn’t take many, it just takes a determined and convicted few,” he wrote. “I believe with all my heart and soul there is a wave of patriots in this country growing in strength and confidence each day. While we watch parts of our country fall to mainstream confusion, complacency, and ignorance, there is a few that are willing to climb or stand or do what ever it takes.”

“The greatest way to live is by our actions. EVERY SINGLE DAY we are given an opportunity. It’s a choice. We either take it or we don’t. I would have to say my favorite part of the day given that my last video has started to go viral, is the woman I had the pleasure to meet that simply said ‘God bless you’.”

That’s called patriotism, and sometimes it feels like it’s in short supply these days, in large part due to the “mainstream confusion, complacency, and ignorance” that’s peddled by everybody from those in the mainstream media to the left-wing extremists in mainstream Hollywood and mainstream academia.

As of 2019, America is drowning in anti-Americanism, victimhood and grievance galore.

Instead of being thankful for living in America, you have people saying, “Screw America.”

Instead of being grateful for having a chance to immigrate here, you have people — including even Democrat members of Congress — saying, “Well, this doesn’t look like the America [that was] promised [to me]!”

And instead of treating the flag and anthem with the utmost respect, you got people — including even superstar athletes worth millionaires — disrespecting them at every turn.

Dovetailing back to what Raso did, what stands out the most about it is the fact that it was done voluntarily. Nobody told him to climb the pole. He chose of his own volition to put himself through hell and put in service to his nation. That’s patriotism, and it’d sure be nice if there were more of it these days here in the states.
