Filings show NY socialist senator who poses as a lowly working stiff dipped into trust fund during campaign

Despite portraying herself as a working-class gal from the bottom of the barrel, hardcore socialist New York state Sen. Julia Salazar is reportedly worth somewhere between $400,000 and $10+ million.

“Julia Salazar — the Brooklyn state senator who has been called out for falsely painting herself as a working-class immigrant — was living off a trust fund while mounting her socialist-themed campaign,” the New York Post reported Thursday, citing new campaign finance disclosures.

What remains unclear is how much the trust fund that was set up by her now-deceased father, Luis H. Salazar, actually contains.

In a filing made in May to the state’s Joint Commission on Public Ethics, she revealed that she’d withdrawn $18,000 from the trust fund last year.

The problem is that when asked to categorize the fund, she chose “Category DDDDD,” a code for funds valued at $10 million or more.

However, the socialist state congresswoman now claims that she’d chosen “Category DDDDD” by accident.

“The lawmaker said she misread the sheet provided by JCOPE outlining the categorizations — and when she read that Category DDDDD was ‘10,000,000 and over,’ she thought it said ‘$10,000 and over,'” the Post noted.

“I looked at it in a cursory way,” she said to the outlet on Thursday. “I mistook the comma versus the decimal point, so it added it extra zeros.”

What’s odd, the Post added, is that she made no other mistakes on her form: “[S]he managed to follow the instructions correctly on the very next line, where she reported her income working as a community organizer for Jews for Racial + Economic Justice — as ‘Category E,’ or $20,000–$50,000.”

Unfortunately, Salazar isn’t required by JCOPE to reveal the exact value of her trust fund — which is technically in her aunt’s name  — so there’s no way to know for certain how much it contains.

What’s known is that, one, she refiled her JCOPE in June with the correct category selection, and two, according to court papers from 2011, at the time the fund contained “in excess” of $600,000, all of it reportedly “cobbled together from her late father’s retirement savings, life insurance policy and real estate sales proceeds.”

Assuming the $600,000 was invested properly, it could very well be worth in excess of a million dollars by now.

When asked specifically about the $18,000 withdrawal she made last year, Salazar said she needed the money to pay bills.

“The $18,000 was used to support myself, because I had to stop working in order to campaign, and I had to go on unpaid leave,” she said. “Basically seven months of living expenses on top of savings that I had from working.”

The fund also reportedly benefits the state congresswoman’s brother and “other unnamed family members.”

Just like socialist Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, with whom she’s personal friends and has been photographed, Salazar reportedly grew up in a middle class or higher home.

Moreover, much like AOC, her “career” in politics has been marred by endless scandals.

First it was learned that the now pro-abortion senator used to be a pro-life activist. Then it was learned that, despite her claims to be a “proud immigrant,” she was born in Miami. Then around last August, word broke that, rather than growing up hard, Salazar had grown up with a dream childhood.

“Salazar and her brother Alex, who is only two years older, have completely different interpretations of their shared upbringing,” an investigation by journalists in New York revealed.

“Alex Salazar characterizes their early years very differently. He remembers them being financially comfortable, living in a big house along a river in Jupiter, Florida. Each of the siblings had their own rooms. The six-figure income that their father, Luis Hernan Salazar, earned as a pilot meant that the family could afford to set aside college savings funds of about $6,000 for each child.”

“We were very much middle class,” Salazar’s brother said. ” We had a house in Jupiter along the river, it was in a beautiful neighborhood. I feel very strongly about my family and I want to tell the truth.”

And it just so happened that the truth was the exact opposite of everything his sister had said.

Besides being a liar, Salazar is also a socialist who’s all about redistributing wealth from those who earned it to those who didn’t, including herself. Yes, herself.

“The latest headache for Democratic Socialist darling Julia Salazar includes the uncovering of documents showing she was arrested in 2011 on suspicion of trying to access the bank account of the former wife of retired baseball all-star Keith Hernandez,” The Daily Caller reported last year. “Salazar was also accused of stealing over $13,000 in cash and goods from the home of Kai Hernandez.”
