Enough is enough: NY Post calls for governor to remove Mayor de Blasio … Now!

On Sunday, the New York Post editorial board published a call for the firing of Mayor Bill de Blasio.

“Bill de Blasio does not care about New York City,” reads the op-ed. “He does not care about its people. He does not care about how it’s run. He does not care about you or your taxes, creating jobs or improving lives. All Bill de Blasio cares about is Bill de Blasio.

“And so, for the good of the city, Gov. Andrew Cuomo needs to remove the mayor from office.”

For the Post, the tipping point was Saturday night’s five-hour power outage in the city while de Blasio was in Iowa campaigning for his hopeless 2020 presidential run.

In May, the Post had pointed out that “de Blasio’s presidential dreams had better not make him too neglectful of his day job — or he could lose it, under a never-before-used clause in the city charter.”

With apologies to Elizabeth Barrett Browning, on Sunday the paper more or less took a “How do I hate thee” approach, counting the ways through a litany of condemnations for the mayor who President Trump has called the “worst” in the country.

According to the editorial board, “It’s only by accident de Blasio is mayor in the first place,” given a strange series of events in 2013 that raised him into office, to include the infamous Anthony Weiner implosion.

After taking office, de Blasio has irresponsibly spent city money to pay off union supporters with “generous contracts, expanded the taxpayer-funded workforce and poured cash into pet projects,” according to the editorial.

The paper gave multiple examples of the mayor’s “lack of interest” in doing his job. In fact, the editorial board wrote: “He couldn’t show up on time. For anything. Every day, he drags himself out of bed at the crack of 10, has himself driven to the other side of town so he can do a halfhearted couple of minutes on the elliptical, and then maybe goes to City Hall. Of late, even that is optional. He goes back to Gracie Mansion to hold meetings about running for president.”

A list of “failures” the Post attributed directly to the mayor, “would have embarrassed a lesser man.”

DeBlasio amazingly gave his wife $850 million for her “ThriveNYC” mental health initiative for which she was unable to report to the City Council a single successful result.

“He spent a jaw-dropping $773 million on his Renewal program to turn around failing schools,” the Post reported. “It did absolutely nothing except keep kids trapped in institutions the city knew were terrible. Shamed? You don’t know Bill. He claims the biggest threat to education is charter schools, which actually deliver results, not his own mismanagement.”

The long list of charges leveled in the op-ed is disturbing. “All because this mayor didn’t care enough to put effective government ahead of his political games,” according to the Post.

Summing it all up, “Per the City Charter and the state Constitution, the governor can suspend the mayor immediately for 30 days, then prepare charges, present de Blasio with them, give him a chance to answer them — and finally officially remove him. Or the mayor could do the right thing and resign.

“Either way, Bill de Blasio must go. Now,” the Post declared.
