Omar says animals are treated better than detained migrants: ‘If we had dogs in these cages, people would fall over one another’ to stop it

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) seemed to suggest on Saturday in an MSNBC interview that illegal immigrants being detained in migrant detention centers are facing bigger threats and worse conditions and the ones they fled from in their own country.

Appearing on “PoliticsNation with Al Sharpton” on Saturday to discuss the border crisis, Omar presented a quote and then twisted that quote to fit her own agenda.

“Well, thank you Al for having me. You know I think back to this famous poem from by Warson Shire, she says, ‘No one leaves for the mouth of the shark unless the mouth of the shark is safer than home,’” Omar said.

The congresswoman continued, “And so we have heard in the testimonies from my colleagues that some of these people now who have fled are actually being faced with the more dangerous mouth of the shark. People are being stripped of their dignity. They are being caged, some of them children.”

Sharpton’s Twitter account later posted a clip of Omar’s comments.

Omar seemed determined to outdo herself when it comes to ridiculous statements during her appearance on Sharpton’s show. The congresswoman also said there would be more outrage right now if dogs were facing the same conditions that detained migrants are facing.

“One thing that was really a wakeup call in telling the truth was when a member of Congress yesterday said to me, ‘If we had dogs in these cages, people would fall over one another to introduce legislation to get rid of these cages,’” Omar said.

She added that America refuses to “recognize [the] humanity” of detained immigrants. She said the United States government is also not “upholding” the “dignity” of detained migrants.

In a recent segment on Fox Nation’s “Starnes Country,” conservative commentator Todd Starnes called out Omar and other immigrants who frequently disparage America.

“Folks, we’ve got a responsibility to stand up to the Orwellian tactics of the leftists and defend liberty,” Starnes said.

He continued, “Otherwise, the cultural jihadists will conquer the nation.”

He added about Omar, “As for congresswoman Omar and other immigrants who find that America, well, just doesn’t meet their standards of living, might I suggest this? How about a one-way plane ticket back to whatever third world hellhole you came from.”

Starnes concluded the segment by saying, “And don’t let the door hit you where the good Lord split you.”

A Friday congressional hearing saw several members of Congress, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), clash with former acting head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Thomas Homan.

Homan defended ICE officers and said any unsatisfactory conditions in migrant detention centers are due to Congress not doing its job.

“If you don’t like this, do your job. Fix it,” he said during the hearing.

In a Friday evening appearance on Fox Business’ “Lou Dobbs Tonight,” Homan said many liberal members of Congress are not even interested in hearing the truth about the crisis at the border or the reality of the situation in migrant detention centers.

“This is about resisting this president. This about open borders. They don’t want to hear the truth,” he said.
