Homan finally erupts on Congress in final statement of hearing, and it’s one epic shellacking

During a House Oversight Committee hearing Friday on the alleged abuses being committed by the Trump administration against detained illegal aliens, congressional Democrats repeatedly tried to tarnish America’s immigration authorities as cruel, uncaring, racist ghouls.

In response to these smears, former U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement acting Director Thomas Homan lost his temper during the hearing more than once — and justifiably so, some would argue.

In one especially fiery exchange, Illinois Democrat Rep. Jesús García issued a personal attack against Homan himself, suggesting in a tirade that the former ICE director was a racist.

Watch:

“Mr. Homan, I’m a father, do you have children? How can you possibly allow this to happen under your watch? Do you not care?” he asked in reference to the Trump administration’s child separation policy that, in reality, began during the Obama administration.

Is it because these children don’t look like children that are around you? I don’t get it,” he continued, before adding, “Have you ever held a deceased child in your arms?”

The answer to the second question was yes.

First of all, your comments are disgusting — I’ve served my country 34 years!” Homan fired back with rage, only to be interrupted by Garcia.

“I find your comments disgusting as well, sir!” the Illinois congressman said.

And yes, I held a 5-year-old boy in my arms in the back of a tractor-trailer and said a prayer for him knowing what his last 30 minutes was like,” the former director continued.

“And I had a 5-year-old son at the time. What I’ve been trying to do my 34 years serving my nation is to save lives. So for you to sit there and insult my integrity and my love for my country and for children — that’s why this whole thing needs to be fixed. You’re the member of Congress. Fix it!”

“We agree on that, but I disagree with your characterization of immigrants as prone to criminality,” Garcia quickly replied before committee chair Elijah Cummings began banging his gavel.

To be clear, the evidence suggests that illegal aliens and even asylum seekers — many whose claims are fraudulent — are indeed prone to criminality.

After ranting for about a minute about the “need for civility,” Cummings allowed Homan to make a final statement.

“No one has experienced what I’ve experienced,” the former director said. “I’ve seen many dead bodies coming across this border. You want to talk about the memo? This memo is one option to stop death. It’s not just about enforcing law, stopping death. If you want to legalize illegal immigration, good luck with that, because it’s gonna get a hell of a lot worse than that.”

“If you say from now, there will be no consequence, no deterrence, it’s not illegal to come this country illegally, more families will come, 31 percent women will be raped, more children will die. We’re a nation of laws. If you don’t like it, sir, change it. You’re the legislator — I’m the executive branch, and I’ve served my country honorably for 34 years. And I will not sit here and have anybody say that I don’t care about children because you’re not the same color as my children.”

During another part of the tumultuous hearing Friday, Homan extended his emotional defense to the rest of his colleagues in ICE and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Those that attack the professional integrity of those that serve and blatantly throw unsubstantiated allegations against these men and women with zero evidence of guilt are wrong and should be ashamed,” he said.

He’d been specifically referencing socialist Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s debunked claim that she’d witnessed detained illegals drinking water from a toilet.

More on that claim below:

“The same people that vilify border patrol for detention conditions are the same people that refuse to answer the call for help, until it’s too late,” Homan added, referring to the decision by AOC and her radical freshman peers to vote against a bill to provide CBP with emergency funding.

He continued by noting how Democrats and their media allies never run stories about all the lives that CBP officials have saved and all of the sacrifices they’ve made.

“No one talks about how these men and women bring toys from their homes and their own children to these facilities so the migrant children will have something to play with,” he said. “No one talks about the sickness of these migrants and how these agents take that sickness home to their own families because of that exposure.”

After asking members of the committee whether they’ve ever attended the burial of an immigration official who was killed on duty, he said, “I have…too many times.”

Listen to his full statement below:

The Democrats stunning attack on Homan, ICE and CBP — not to mention their astonishingly sleazy attempt to use Obama-era detention photos to smear the Trump administration — could ultimately backfire on them.

Instead of showing any genuine interest in resolving the ongoing crisis along the border, Democrats appeared to use the hearing to grandstand and attack Trump administration officials. If anything, it seemed to fit into their #OrangeManBad narrative.

And well, that’s probably not a good thing for them …
