Human rights lawyer says Ilhan Omar would be a ‘member of the KKK’ if she weren’t in Congress

If Rep. Ilhan Omar was not a member of Congress, she “would be in the KKK,” according to a human rights attorney speaking with Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

Brooke Goldstein, the executive director for The Lawfare Project, discussed the Minnesota Democratic congresswoman and her criticisms of Jews and Israel during an appearance on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” Wednesday.

Carlson opened his show with a blistering rebuke of the freshman lawmaker who called him a “racist fool” after a previous monologue in which he called her out as an example of why the current American immigration system is “dangerous.”

“Her remarks about Israel reveal something, perhaps, about what she believes about the world,” Carlson said Wednesday, asking what Goldstein thought about the comments from one of the first two Muslim women in the House of Representatives.

“First of all, this is a woman who, by the way, called you a white supremacist. And the irony there is that if she wasn’t a member of Congress, she would be a member of the KKK,” Goldstein said.

“Yes, she has commented on Israel, but she has built a career on attacking American Jews. She has said that American Jews control Congress. She has insinuated, for example, that Jews have dual loyalty,” the Lawfare Project founder added.

Goldstein, whose organization, according to its website, is “a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness about and facilitating a response to the abuse of Western legal systems and human rights law,” called out Omar’s remarks as an “attack.”

“These things have nothing to do with Israel, they are direct attacks on American Jews, a minority community in the United States,” she said.

“She hides behind the fact that, number one, she is a Muslim and a woman, as though that insulates her from criticism and anybody who criticizes what she says is automatically Islamophobic or racist,” Goldstein continued about the Somali refugee who admitted this week that she had bungled some facts on racial discrimination in a story she had shared with a group of high school students.

“And she also hides behind, ‘Well, you know, I’m just criticizing Israel.’ But think about it, if you had a problem, for example, with the Chinese government, would you turn around to local Chinese Americans and discriminate against them?” she questioned, accusing Omar of “using politics as an affirmative defense to bigoted discrimination of American Jews.”

Goldstein noted how the Democratic Party was unable to “unequivocally condemn” anti-Semitism because they were “pandering so much” to the congresswoman.

“But we have, I think, a crisis of consciousness right now – not only in the Democratic Party but in the left,” the author and award-winning filmmaker continued.

“The rise of anti-Semitism, not just in the Democratic Party but in the left, is at the level of a national emergency. We have over half of all hate crimes in this country target Jewish Americans, but you wouldn’t know that from reading the media,” she noted.

“When you have Jewish children, for example, going to school with armed guards in this country in 2019, we have a major problem with the rise of anti-Semitism here,” she concluded.  “And Ilhan Omar is just a small part of it and a symptom of it. “
