Democrats may be trying their best to act as though illegal immigrants were never detained and deported until President Trump took office, but some activists are reminding us this is not the case.
Immigrant activists are protesting at Joe Biden’s 2020 campaign headquarters in Philadelphia and reminding the world — and the vice president — of the deportations that took place during Barack Obama’s administration in which Biden served as vice president.
“We are here with families who have had their families separated both under the Obama and Trump administrations, and we are demanding that Biden apologize for overseeing 3 million deportations under the Obama administration, and we are calling for Biden and 2020 Democratic candidates to commit to ending deportation and detention in their first day in office,” a spokeswoman for the protestors said on Wednesday during a Facebook Live video of the event.
Movimiento Cosecha — which translates to “Harvest Movement” in English — is the group behind the organization of the protest. The group may be protesting Biden and the Obama administration, but they are still a reliably leftist organization. They previously demanded that all 2020 Democrat hopefuls pledge to stop deportations of illegal immigrants on the first day they take office.

“Philadelphia — Immigrant families whose loved ones were among the 3,000,000 deported while Former Vice President Biden was in the White House will take over Biden campaign headquarters in Philadelphia on Wednesday,” a press release for the protest read. “They are demanding Biden apologize for separating their families, and commit that if elected president in 2020 he would use his executive authority to put an immediate end to all immigrant detention and deportations. Families are also calling for Biden to commit to bringing home loved ones that were unjustly deported by the last two administrations.”
In one tweet, the leftist group called Biden “out of touch with what the immigrant community needs to live a dignified life.”

Protestors chanted in Spanish and at one point yelled “shame!” repeatedly.

“I am not just here to tell my own story, but on behalf of thousands of other mothers who were also separated from their families during that time,” said Norma Morales, whose son was deported in 2011. “Sometimes when we come to this country with think that we have to keep our heads down and just focus on working to provide for our children. But I’ve lost that fear and found my courage because I know that just like anyone else— I deserve to be treated with dignity.”
Biden was not present for the protests as he was campaigning in Iowa on Wednesday.
Six activists — the ones who were doing the sit-in — were reportedly taken into custody following the protest.
“Six protestors are taking into custody and are expected to be processed, cited and released soon after briefly occupying the lobby of what’s believed to be Biden’s campaign headquarters, during pro-immigration and anti-deportation protest,” tweeted photojournalist @BasSlabbers along with images of the protestors being taken away by police.
