County clerk sounds alarm: Licenses for illegals look identical to non-immigrants, could be used to vote

One brave county clerk is standing up to the madness in New York by vowing to fight the decision to give driver’s licenses to illegal aliens in the state.

In June, BizPac Review reported that Governor Andrew Cuomo had signed a bill allowing undocumented immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses and “apply for a license by using ‘foreign documents such as passports.'”

“Today, we passed legislation restoring the right for all qualified drivers to obtain drivers licenses regardless of immigration status,” announced New York Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins in a statement. “By passing this needed legislation, we are growing our economy while at the same time making our roads safer. This is the right step forward for New York State as we continue to advocate for comprehensive immigration reform on the federal level.”

Worse yet is the idea that Cuomo will not only allow illegal aliens to obtain these legal documents, but will attempt to do everything he can to make sure “the federal government will not be able to access the information or subpoena the information.”

“You create a driver’s license for undocumented people, you just have to make sure you do it in a way that the feds don’t come in the next day and access that database with the exact opposite intent,” he said in a radio interview.

This would severely hinder the “raids” being conducted by ICE and other immigration enforcement officials, which is really the whole point. They want illegal aliens to have all the same rights as law-abiding citizens, without having to face any of the consequences of their actions.

One New York state county clerk seems to think that allowing illegals to have licenses isn’t about “making the roads safer” or even about driving at all. Rather, Rensselaer County Clerk Frank Merola believes that this all boils down to creating more voters in New York.

When asked by Fox Business host David Asman what his “biggest fear” was with regards to this legislation, Merola didn’t hold back.

“Well, not just the fear, it’s the idea that someone is here illegally and we’re gonna give them a license to drive that’s gonna look exactly like the license you have today,” he said, referring to the “enhanced” license held by the host.

Further questioning reveals that Merola believes the license is specifically designed to look nearly identical to those held by actual citizens, and it’s got nothing to do with getting behind the wheel.

“I said in 2007, I say it again, it’s really not about driving,” Merola claims. “If they wanted to give them a license that looked a little different than your license and my license they could do that. They want to give them a license identical to the license that everyone holds to register to vote. And that’s exactly what they’re looking to do.”

When the host listed New York’s relatively lame excuse for giving illegals the ability to receive a driver’s license, Merola dismissed it entirely.

“That’s just a big joke, I think,” he chuckled. “It’s nothing about the safely part of, it’s about getting people into the polls, and that’s what they’re looking to do. It has nothing to do with driving at all.”
