Donald Trump Jr. fired a shot at Nike after the company cancelled a planned sneaker release featuring a Betsy Ross flag.
President Donald Trump’s eldest son called out the apparel company in a tweet Wednesday, slamming the decision to allow former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick to dictate its corporate decisions.

“If the Betsy Ross Flag, the flag of the American Revolution, is too offensive for Nike to commemorate The 4th of July maybe Nike should go with this… seems to be more in line with their views,” Trump Jr. tweeted.
His comments came with an image of a shoe featuring a hammer-and-sickle logo similar to that of the former Soviet Union.

Trump Jr.’s rebuke came after the Air Max 1 USA, set to be released by Nike to celebrate America’s birthday, was reportedly pulled from production because Kaepernick found the image of an early version of the American flag offensive.
“NIKE made the decision to halt distribution of the Air Max 1 Quick Strike Fourth of July based on concerns that it could unintentionally offend and detract from the nation’s patriotic holiday,” the company said in a statement Tuesday, according to Fox News.
Nike was slammed after announcing the decision which sparked a new wave of debate over America’s historical symbols ahead of the Fourth of July holiday. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz vowed not to buy Nike products anymore.
Yep, I own lots of @Nike I’ve been a life-long customer, since I was kid. But they’ve now decided their shoes represent snide disdain for the American flag. Since they don’t want my business anymore, I won’t buy any more. Can anyone recommend a good sneaker co that’s not so woke? https://t.co/XQfO9Dh737

Fox News host Laura Ingraham did the same:

Arizona Governor Doug Ducey made it clear his state would not be offering Nike any financial incentives to do business there as it had bowed “to the current onslaught of political correctness and historical revisionism.”
Trump Jr. followed up his tweet Wednesday with another comment, responding to a post by U.S. political editor at DailyMail.com, David Martosko who pointed out that the now-offensive Betsy Ross flag once flew over former President Obama’s second inauguration.

Weird that no one had a problem with The Betsy Ross Flag when it flew over Obama’s inauguration,” Trump Jr. tweeted.
