Trump defends migrant detention centers: ‘Our Border Patrol people are not hospital workers, doctors or nurses’

As leftists like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) continue their extreme rhetoric about migrant detention centers in the United States, President Donald Trump has taken to Twitter to defend the men and women working to enforce border security.

“Our Border Patrol people are not hospital workers, doctors or nurses,” the president tweeted on Wednesday afternoon.

Trump continued by praising border patrol agents and saying the real problem is with bad immigration laws and Democrats who refuse to take action on border security.

“The Democrats [and] bad Immigration Laws, which could be easily fixed, are the problem. Great job by Border Patrol, above and beyond. Many of these illegals aliens are living far better now than where they came from, and in far safer conditions. No matter how good things actually look, even if perfect, the Democrat visitors will act shocked & aghast at how terrible things are. Just Pols,” he tweeted.

Trump said the only way to fix the current problems with illegal immigration is to introduce a merit-based immigration system, something he has suggested before.

“If they really want to fix them, change the Immigration Laws and Loopholes. So easy to do! Now, if you really want to fix the Crisis at the Southern Border, both humanitarian and otherwise, tell migrants not to come into our country unless they are willing to do so legally, and hopefully through a system based on Merit. This way we have no problems at all!” Trump tweeted.

The president’s tweets came after a report was released on Wednesday that claimed detained migrants are living in dismal conditions.

The Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Office of Inspector General (OIG) released a report that stated migrants are living in crowded and unsanitary conditions in the detention centers they are kept in after being captured trying to get into the country illegally.

Trump’s tweets also follow a report that a secret Facebook group — allegedly involving past and current border patrol agents — was sharing vulgar messages about detained migrants and liberal lawmakers like Ocasio-Cortez. An internal investigation has been launched into the group.

Ocasio-Cortez also recently toured migrant detention centers and claimed she saw migrants drinking out of toilets, though some have corrected her to say that the holding facilities typically contain devices that have a sink attached to a toilet to make piping easier.

“Chuck Schumer wants to talk about photo-ops? I saw one yesterday. And it’s called Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez going down to one of these facilities and making this outrageous claim that a woman’s drinking from a toilet,” Kellyanne Conway said on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends” in response to Ocasio-Cortez’s toilet claims.

The president followed up his various tweets defending border patrol agents by suggesting another way all controversies surrounding detention centers could be avoided — people could stop illegally coming into the country.

“If Illegal Immigrants are unhappy with the conditions in the quickly built or refitted detentions centers, just tell them not to come. All problems solved!” he tweeted.

And to drive home how stagnant Democrat lawmakers are on the issue of illegal immigration at the moment, Trump said even the Mexican government is doing more to help with America’s border security issues.

“Mexico is doing a far better job than the Democrats on the Border. Thank you Mexico!” he tweeted.
