Former DNC Deputy Chair Ellison deletes tweet praising Antifa following brutal attack on Ngo: ‘Gone, but not forgotten’

While it was once en vogue for leftists to praise Antifa as some kind of righteous liberal group taking to the streets, it’s now not so much of a good look following a brutal assault on conservative writer Andy Ngo in Portland, Oregon over the weekend.

While it wasn’t the first assault on a journalist by members of the supposedly “anti-fascist” group, it is perhaps the most viral of their attacks. Even liberals like CNN’s Jake Tapper and Brian Stelter have called out the group for the assault.

Keith Ellison, who was once the Deputy Chair of the Democratic National Committee, responded to the attack by quietly digging into his old tweets and deleting one where he seemed to be praising the group.

“At @MoonPalaceBooks and I just found the book that strike fear in the heart of @realDonaldTrump,” Ellison tweeted in January 2018. The tweet was accompanied by a photo of Ellison holding the book “Antifa: The Anti-Fascist Handbook” by Mark Bray.

Ellison was the Deputy Chair of the Democratic National Committee and a U.S. Representative for Minnesota’s fifth district. He currently serves as the Attorney General of Minnesota.

Despite deleting the tweet, screenshots of it have already been captured and they are making the rounds on social media where Ellison is earning a lot of blowback not just for his air-headed tweet, but also for his attempt to quietly bury the tweet in light of recent events.

“Dems in damage-control mode. Deputy Chair of the DNC Keith Ellison deleted his tweet supporting Antifa,” Erielle Davidson, a senior contributor to The Federalist, tweeted about the matter.

She added, “They know they’ve gone overboard on the communism. Now they’re gonna backpedal. Too late, crazies.”

Another user reminded Ellison of the photo, “Gone, but not forgotten.”

“Pass it around! If Ellison thinks he will escape this, not a chance in hell,” another added.

“Oh hey, who’s this guy in this photo, endorsing a terrorist organization? Hm… I can’t put my finger on it,” another user wrote while also sharing the photo of Ellison with the Antifa book. The tweet was in response to a tweet Ellison put out about NDAs.

While you won’t find any mention of the attack on Ngo on Ellison’s Twitter account, you’ll find plenty of tweets going after conservatives. One tweet finds Ellison even sharing an article about himself with the headline “Keith Ellison goes on the road to counter hate,” which is humorous, but also a little scary when you put it into the context of his tweet praising Antifa.

The attack on Ngo should be a wakeup call for all leftists who once praised Antifa. Instead of simply hiding that past praise, they should own it and call it what it is — a mistake. The proof of Antifa’s violence has been around for a long time and many conservatives have pointed it out time and time again. Ngo is the latest proof of this violence. If leftists continue to praise the group or even ignore their violent, fascist tendencies then nothing they say should ever be taken seriously again.
