Kamala wasn’t the only 2020 candidate peddling contrived debate quote T-shirts

Congressman Eric Swalwell followed Senator Kamala Harris’ lead by peddling his own T-shirts from the dig he made to Vice President Joe Biden during the first Democratic presidential debate, when he urged the 76-year-old to “pass the torch.”

Surprisingly, few liberals slammed Swalwell for his ageist insult. While Swalwell’s jab fell flat with the audience, he’s trying to capitalize on it the same way Harris is doing with her “I was that little girl” T-shirt.

As BizPac Review reported, Harris came under fire for trying to exploit her staged viral debate moment with Joe Biden by shilling a $30 T-shirt on her campaign website.

Critics called Harris’ stunt contrived and exploitative, especially since many Democrats do not believe Biden is racist simply because he worked with Democratic segregationists decades ago.

It’s very common in Washington (and in life) to work with people whose views you don’t always agree with for a common goal.

Not to be outdone, Senator Amy Klobuchar also began promoting merchandise based on her comments from the debate. Two of the items were phone cases, one featuring her line “I will not conduct foreign policy by tweet” and the other “Alert not for conducting diplomacy.”

Similarly, Bernie Sanders is also selling his “free-for-all” T-shirts. One proudly proclaimed:

  • College for all.
  • Medicare for all.
  • Jobs for all.
  • Justice for all.

Predictably, there’s never any mention of who’s going to pay for this “free” stuff.

Because Democrats can never let an opportunity to ask for money pass, Andrew Yang used his heightened national fame to promoting his book, “The War on Normal People.”

Yang followed up by trying to buy Twitter followers. He offered $1,000 a month for 12 months to a random Twitter user of his choosing who follows him on Twitter and retweets his post.

During the debate, Senator Cory Booker also begged for campaign donations.

All these Democratic solicitations for cash underscore the leftist theme that they’re giving away “free” stuff — that you pay for. “Free” stuff is never free.  This may be why MSNBC opinion host Donny Deutsch says he’s worried that none of the 2020 Democratic candidates could beat President Trump.

As BizPac Review reported, Deutsch — who despises Trump — said the hard-left positions the Democratic Party has adopted — including its open embrace of socialism — will alienate millions of Americans. Most Americans are politically centrist and are not far-left or far-right.

“When you can label somebody a socialist, 57% of this country thinks that word is un-American,” Deutsch remarked. “I’m not saying it’s fair. When [Trump] can blanket Elizabeth Warren as a socialist and he’s on stage with her, the Democrats lose.”

Deutsch added: “I do not believe Elizabeth Warren on stage with Donald Trump beats him. And I think if we’re honest with ourselves, I think a lot of people agree with me.”

Many TV viewers were underwhelmed by the first debates, although Democrats believe that Kamala Harris, Julian Castro and Pete Buttigieg made strong impressions.

Based on a report by the poll-analysis website FiveThirtyEight, Harris, Castro and Buttigieg all gained a significant number of Twitter followers shortly after the debate. Does that translate into votes? Not necessarily, but we’re still early in this race.

Meanwhile, President Trump summed up how his supporters viewed the Democratic debates: “BORING!”
