Bill Maher links 2020 Democrats to ‘America’s biggest problem,’ names all who need to ‘get the f– out’

Bill Maher thinks the field of Democratic presidential hopefuls is too crowded and some candidates need to “get the f–k out” of the race.

The “Real Time” host complained Friday about “overcrowding” in the Democratic 2020 presidential race, commenting on the week’s two-day, 20 candidate debates as he called on half of the contenders to just drop out.

“Look, there’s too many people in this race, right?” Maher asked as he held photos of each of the candidates. “I’m going to get rid of ten of them right now.”

Former Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper was the first to get cut on Maher’s list, as he called him a “nice guy” before tossing the headshot aside.

“No,” Maher declared. “Get the f-k out.”

Sen. Michael Bennett of Colorado was next followed by former Delaware Rep. John Delaney,  Rep. Tim Ryan of Ohio and New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, who had a special message from the HBO host.

“Al Franken says hello,” Maher said before tossing her photo, referring to the part Gillibrand played in the former Minnesota senator’s resignation.

Maher admitted he liked Rep. Eric Swalwell but still would eliminate him as he is “too young” and “looked like he was wearing a toupee” in the debate. He added author Marianne Williamson and investor Andrew Yang to the list as well as former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio.

Maher spent a moment on O’Rourke as guest Joy Reid of MSNBC regretted that the former congressman was on Maher’s chopping block. While he admitted he liked the Democrat “a lot,” his campaign was “not looking good.”

In a discussion with guest Seth McFarlane, Maher noted his dislike of the overcrowded field, and the two-night format of the debates which had the 2020 contenders more focused on grandstanding appearances instead of substantive debate.

“The audience have to go and f–king now,” McFarlane said. “First of all, the number of candidates is through the roof so every second counts … everything gets a standing ovation.”

“This is not the way to pick a president,” Maher agreed, calling the debate format “Thunderdome.”

“Everyone’s putting on a show,” McFarlane said.

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, another 2020 contender who joined Maher earlier in the show, agreed that “the format is challenging,” speaking of the debates but noted that “all of this really comes down to who best can defeat Donald Trump.”

Besides his softball questions to the Hawaii Democrat, Maher seemed most impressed with South Bend, Indiana mayor Pete Buttigieg’s debate performance.

“Pete could be the guy,” Maher said. “He was the youngest guy on the stage and acted the most mature. He’s the smartest kid in the class.”
