Everyone breaks out into Spanish at Dem debate: ‘Wait until Warren starts speaking Cherokee’

The most bizarre thing about Wednesday night’s Democratic presidential debate is that there was so much Spanish spoken. The attempt to pander and prove one’s “wokeness” was strange to see and it led to some great reactions on social media.

Beto O’Rourke and Cory Booker were the first two candidates to partly answer questions in Spanish and if that wasn’t enough Spanish for you, don’t worry! Moderator José Diaz-Balart asked O’Rourke a question completely in Spanish. Based on O’Rourke’s answer, the question seemed to be about the viral photo of the drowned migrant father and daughter trying to cross the border into the United States.

Check out José Diaz-Balart asking a question at the debate in Spanish below:

Beto O’Rourke was the first of the night to partly answer a question in Spanish. He actually tripped over his words at one point when he abandoned English. The moment did not quite work like he wanted either since Savannah Guthrie interrupted the former congressman to remind him that he did not actually answer the question he was asked — which was whether there should be an individual 70 percent tax rate for people making 10 million dollars or more a year.

Many immediately mocked Beto for the obvious pandering. It made him look ridiculous and there was no denying it.

Most focused on the reaction of Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) to Beto’s Spanish speaking which was pure confusion.

Booker actually later partly answered a question in Spanish himself. Check out Booker speaking Spanish below:

And here are some reactions:

Julian Castro also ended up joining in on the Spanish speaking, which seemed to make the most sense to viewers.

Donald Trump Jr. had taken to social media to present “Bingo” for the Democrat debate with some predictions about the pandering messages the candidates would push. Even he could not predict the Spanish speaking.

With 25 people running to get the Democrat Party nomination to challenge Donald Trump in 2020, the Democratic National Committee and NBC News split the first debate event into two nights. A total of 20 candidates get to make their case to Americans with 10 taking the stage each night.

Wednesday’s candidate list was Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Beto O’Rourke, Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Julián Castro, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, Tim Ryan (D-OH), John Delaney and Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI).

Warren is the only candidate among the group to be polling in the top five.

Candidates taking part in Thursday night’s debate will be Joe Biden, Sanders, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Sen. Michael Bennet (D-CO), Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), John Hickenlooper, Eric Swalwell (D-CA), Marianne Williamson, and Andrew Yang.

In a move that was no doubt a response to the kicking off the Democratic presidential debates, Donald Trump’s reelection campaign purchased one of the most expensive and viewed digital ad placements. While many no doubt tuned into the presidential debates, countless more saw ads for the president’s reelection campaign on YouTube’s masthead.
