Grisham was White House Director of Communications for first lady Melania Trump, and was seen as a front-runner in getting the position.

The first lady took to Twitter to announce the decision, fully on board with the move.

“I am pleased to announce @StephGrisham45 will be the next @PressSec & Comms Director! She has been with us since 2015 – @potus & I can think of no better person to serve the Administration & our country. Excited to have Stephanie working for both sides of the @WhiteHouse. #BeBest,” Mrs. Trump tweeted.

Sander’s responded online to say Grisham will be “an incredible asset.”

“[Grisham] will be an incredible asset to the President and the country. I’m sad to leave the WH, but so happy to leave our team in such great hands. Stephanie will do a phenomenal job. Proud to have another mom and a great friend in this role,” Sanders tweeted.

Grisham is a single mother of two, with her older son graduating high school in 2017.

The Daily Wire’s Ryan Saavedra quoted sources who described Grisham as a “stone-cold killer.

“Grisham is pure Trump,” one source said. “She holds down the East Wing with ease and has no loyalties to any faction within the Republican Party. Members of the first family love her and know that she is fiercely dedicated and loyal.”

CNN reported that a senior White House official said Grisham will remain in charge of communications for the East Wing in addition to taking the role of press secretary — which means she will remain as Mrs. Trump’s spokeswoman.

Of course, leave to the network to try to sow discord over the decision, as seen from CNN White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins.

Collins said in a tweet: “Stephanie Grisham was at Camp David this weekend with President Trump … Melania Trump didn’t go.”

It remains to be seen if Grisham will return to giving daily press briefings. With the blessing of the president, Sanders moved away from them — Trump reportedly told Sanders “not to bother” giving regular briefings because the press reacted “rudely and inaccurately.”

Here’s a quick sampling of responses from to the move from Twitter:
