Reports that Pelosi called Trump to stop raids raise suspicions, may be a smokescreen

President Trump’s decision to postpone Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids reportedly came after a phone call from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif, asking him to call off the planned campaign.

That’s according to Fox News, who cited a source familiar with the situation.

But why would President Trump give Pelosi a win like this?

What we do know is that the president tweeted Saturday that his decision comes “at the request of Democrats.”

If the call did take place, it’s difficult to say what Pelosi was willing to give up in return — the radical progressive wing of the party will not tolerate concessions —  but it’s clear that the Democratic leader has opposed the administration at every turn.

There’s also the possibility that the postponement is part of a greater strategy at play by Trump, who said he did so to give Democrats more time to reach a bipartisan deal on the immigration crisis at the southern border.

With Democrats getting the word out that the ICE raids were coming, the agency lost the element of surprise in pursuing illegal aliens who’ve ignored deportation orders, and with the liberal media engaged, any lack of success would take center stage in the quest to highlight how inept the administration is.

As word on the raids was leaked, Democrats across the country rallied around illegal aliens, aligning themselves with those who defy U.S. laws over ICE agents, going so far as to coach them on how to react if approached by the agency.

ICE Director Mark Morgan told ABC News that the deportation raids were to send a message to members of the illegal alien community that their lawlessness will not be tolerated.

“This is not about fear,” he said. “No one is instilling fear in anyone. This is about the rule of law and maintaining the integrity of the system.”

In an appearance Saturday on Fox News’ “Justice with Judge Jeanine,” Morgan stressed that the raids were plagued by the leaks and the postponement will “give Congress another chance on a bipartisan method to actually get together, pass this supplement, so that we can enforce the rule of law, positively impact this crisis and maintain the integrity of this system.”

“The media got a hold of some operational specifics, and they reported it,” he told host Jeanine Pirro. “It’s egregious and it puts the lives of the officers and agents at risk. The men and women at ICE are true American heroes. The president recognized that. He postponed it to protect them.”

With a flood of humanity at the southern border — more than 140,000 migrants were encountered or apprehended in May, and 676,315 enforcement actions on the border in FY2019 through May — Trump’s move to halt the raids puts the pressure on Pelosi and her merry band of Democrats to take action.

“It’s outrageous,” Morgan said of the current scenario. “Congress should get together and fix this.”

The director was also clear that the clock is ticking and that he still has the “green light” to remove any individual who has a court-issued deportation order.

“I have got the green light to anyone that’s here in violation of federal immigration law, I have the authority and the support to go after them, apply consequences, and remove them,” Morgan said.

But for a complicit media, it’s difficult to fathom how Democrats, who conflate those in the country illegally with lawful immigrants, gets away opposing the rule of law so vigorously.

What is a little more clear is that the Democratic Party’s continued protection of illegal immigrants serves as a siren call for Central Americans to keep trekking to the border.
