House Oversight Committee to vote on whether to subpoena Kellyanne Conway

The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform is set to vote this week on whether to subpoena Kellyanne Conway, Counselor to President Donald Trump.

The vote is set to take place on Wednesday and it is in regards to recent accusations that Conway has violated the Hatch Act while in office. The Hatch Act is a law that loosely bars most employees in the executive branch of government from engaging in political debate and activity.

The House Oversight Committee sent a memo to the White House about the upcoming vote saying that they “will hold a hearing to examine the recommendation of the independent Office of Special Counsel (OSC) that President Trump remove Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway from federal service, as well as reports by OSC about Ms. Conway and other Trump Administration appointees.”

The memo added, “The Committee also will hold a business meeting to consider a subpoena in the event that Ms. Conway does not appear.”

The OSC publicly recommended recently that Conway be fired from her position for violating the Hatch Act.

“Ms. Conway’s violations, if left unpunished, would send a message to all federal employees that they need not abide by the Hatch Act’s restrictions. Her actions thus erode the principal foundation of our democratic system—the rule of law,” the OSC announced in a public statement.

The OSC believes Conway has violated the Hatch Act on “numerous occasions.” They even refer to her as a “repeat offender” in their report.

The report also said that Conway has violated the law “by disparaging Democratic presidential candidates while speaking in her official capacity during television interviews and on social media.”

The White House has stood behind Conway and supported her through the accusations.

“The Office of Special Counsel’s (OSC) unprecedented actions against Kellyanne Conway are deeply flawed and violate her constitutional rights to free speech and due process. Others, of all political views, have objected to the OSC’s unclear and unevenly applied rules which have a chilling effect on free speech for all federal employees,” White House Deputy Press Secretary Steven Groves said in a public statement about the OSC report.

Groves went on to say that the OSC’s report seems “influenced by media pressure and liberal organizations.”

Groves added, “Perhaps OSC should be mindful of its own mandate to act in a fair, impartial, non-political manner, and not misinterpret or weaponize the Hatch Act.”

Henry J. Kerner of the Office of Special Counsel (OSC) has also been invited to testify before the House Oversight Committee.

Chairman Elijah Cummings previously sent Conway a letter asking her to answer the accusations made by the OSC.

The recent hearings put on by the House of Representatives have mostly been an embarrassing and glaring example of the sad state of American politics. Everyone from “Lethal Weapon” star Danny Glover to Watergate “celebrity” John Dean has gone to Capitol Hill to testify about nothing arguments like reparations and the Mueller report. These clown shows must end. Americans are facing real issues every single day while Congress seems to only be interested in showboating for the far-left.
