Trump announces 2-week delay in planned mass deportation raids ‘at the request of Democrats’

President Donald Trump announced through Twitter on Saturday that the planned mass deportation of thousands of illegal immigrants will be delayed by two weeks. Trump says this decision comes “at the request of Democrats.”

“At the request of Democrats, I have delayed the Illegal Immigration Removal Process (Deportation) for two weeks to see if the Democrats and Republicans can get together and work out a solution to the Asylum and Loophole problems at the Southern Border,” the president tweeted.

He added that if Democrats and Republicans cannot come together and come up with a solution then his plan will move forward and deportations will begin.

“If not, Deportations start!” he tweeted.

The plan to round up 2000 illegal aliens nationwide caused quite a stir with many liberals. Some vowed to fight back and to work against the efforts by ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement).

“We are all aware of the threat from President Trump regarding raids by ICE, and in response, Chicago has taken concrete steps to support our immigrant communities,” Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot tweeted.

She continued, “I have directed — and Superintendent Johnson has confirmed – that CPD has terminated ICE’s access to CPD’s databases related to federal immigration enforcement activities. I have also personally spoken with ICE leadership in Chicago and voiced my strong objection to any such raids. Further, I reiterated that CPD will not cooperate with or facilitate any ICE enforcement actions.”

New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio called the move by ICE “a sick plot.”

“A word to @realDonaldTrump: New Yorkers won’t be divided by a sick plot to tear families apart and force immigrants into the shadows. We KNOW our city is stronger, safer and more prosperous than ever BECAUSE of our immigrant communities,” he tweeted.

ICE Director Mark Morgan told ABC News that the motivation behind the plan to detain and deport thousands of illegal aliens ignoring their deportation orders was to send a message to others that the rule of law will be enforced.

“This is not about fear,” he said. “No one is instilling fear in anyone. This is about the rule of law and maintaining the integrity of the system.”

The bottom line on illegal immigrants and border security is this — something needs to be done. The system we have does not work. It hurts both American citizens and people seeking a new beginning in America. Having no system in place benefits nobody, but Democrats seem to think that no progress on the issue is all the progress we need.

Trump delaying the deportations by two weeks is to make the simple point that his administration is taking this issue seriously while Democrats in Congress are putting on clown show hearings and complaining about an issue that they have every tool to solve.

It’s likely that nothing will happen in these next two weeks. Democrats refuse to work with Republicans and they refuse to take a practical stance on the illegal immigrant situation. Trump’s latest tweet is like a father talking to his children, trying to motivate them to get up off the couch and actually do something, which is sadly what the Democrats need right now. Unfortunately, it still likely won’t be enough and Dems will continue to do nothing while standing in opposition to Trump.
