‘All of it’s new’: DHS chief says critics are utterly clueless about Trump’s powerful Mexican agreement

After President Donald Trump eked out a potentially historic immigration deal with Mexico late last week, The New York Times claimed via its habitually dubious anonymous sources that the concessions the Latin American agreed to “had already” been made long before the president’s tariffs threat.

Within hours, this unsubstantiated allegation spread to every corner of the country thanks to the left-wing media, which falsely touted the Times’ uncorroborated allegation as a verified truth.

Enter Fox News, the self-described “fair and balanced” news network that’s routinely demonized by the far-left media, despite its high ratings and superior public trust.

Speaking with Acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan early Sunday morning, “Fox News Sunday” fill-in host Bret Baier asked whether these rumors were true.

“How much of this is new?” he specifically asked.

Watch McAleenan’s reply below:

All of it is new,” he replied. “I mean, we’ve heard commitments before from Mexico to do more on their southern border. The last time they deployed down there, it’s about 4 or 500 officers. This is a more than tenfold commitment to increase their security in Chiapas. That’s where people are entering from Guatemala in southern Mexico.”

Being as Baier is a quality reporter (unlike others …), he pushed back on this assertion.

“Your predecessor, Secretary [Kirstjen] Nielsen, testified that these things were happening to the House Judiciary Committee. There were talks about moving National Guard troop to the southern border with Guatemala. You are saying this is different than that?” he said.

Fair question.

“It’s very different,” McAleenan replied. “The president put a charge in this whole dialogue with Mexico with the tariff threat, brought them to the table, the foreign minister from Mexico arrived within hours. He arrived the next day with real proposals on the table.”

“This is the first time we’ve heard anything like this kind of number of law enforcement being deployed in Mexico to address migrations. Not just at their southern border but also on their transportation routes to the northern border and in coordinated patrols in key areas along our southwest border.”

Who do you believe — McAleenan, a 13-year government veteran who previously served as U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s area director for Los Angeles International Airport; or The New York Times, a demonstrably partisan “news” outlet known for its stunning mistakes?

Continuing the interview, Baier then asked the acting secretary about a set of angry tweets vis-a-vis the Times and its peers that President Donald Trump had posted earlier Sunday morning:

“The president tweeted this morning that any stories that said that this was not new, as you’re saying, are false,” the FNC host said. “But he said there are some important things not mentioned and yesterday’s press release, one in particular.”

“Yeah, so the president tweeted out that this tariff has been suspended, that as Secretary Mnuchin pointed out, that there’s a mechanism to make sure that they do what they promise to do, that there’s an actual result, that we see a vast reduction in those numbers,” McAleenan replied.

“And as the state department announced, there are going to be further actions, further dialogue with Mexico on immigration, and how to manage this asylum flow in the region, which is a small percentage of the total flow. This is by and large  an economic migration that we need to stop  with enforcement.”

HERE’S WHAT YOU’RE MISSING …

And there you have it. What remains unclear is whether or not the Times will issue a correction/retraction. At this point, it’s not even known whether the Times and its peers in the liberal media will even acknowledge McAleenan’s words and report them to their respective audiences.

A stunning number of pertinent stories are routinely ignored by the media solely because the stories belie the narratives told by the Democrat Party and instead bolster the points made by the Republican Party. The media are particularly fond of ignoring stories involving the heinous crimes committed by illegal aliens:
