Twitter is aflutter with news reports that Maxine Waters got something right. But did she? Did President Trump “back off” a “bluff” about Mexico tariffs? Or did he, in fact, wrangle the win in negotiations with our neighbors to the south, undercutting Mad Maxine in the most brutal return volley ever?

The drama began with just another ho-hum tweet by the left-coast congresswoman on Friday, when she wrote: “Spineless GOP Senators grew a backbone this week & finally stood up to their Dictator Trump on something: Mexico tariffs, also known as a TAX INCREASE on American consumers. Bet your bottom dollar, Trump will back off by the weekend. Just another bluff!”

Then several hours later … whoa, the Mexico tariffs deadline connected to stopping “all illegal immigration” was “indefinitely suspended.”

President Trump tweeted, “I am pleased to inform you that The United States of America has reached a signed agreement with Mexico. The Tariffs scheduled to be implemented by the U.S. on Monday, against Mexico, are hereby indefinitely suspended. Mexico, in turn, has agreed to take strong measures to……..stem the tide of Migration through Mexico, and to our Southern Border. This is being done to greatly reduce, or eliminate, Illegal Immigration coming from Mexico and into the United States. Details of the agreement will be released shortly by the State Department. Thank you!”

The timing of Waters’ tweet was impeccable, no doubt. But she was wrong across the board regarding what was about to unfold …

Sit down, Maxine. The President is back in town and he’s doing business …

Still, the left will crow about any small, perceived “gotcha.”

So the left has to celebrate whatever it can get these days. But the party never ends on the right side of the street.

Last week, President Trump declared that a 5 percent tariff would be imposed on all products imported from Mexico if the country doesn’t take appropriate action to stem the tide of illegal immigrants crossing into the U.S.

Mexico immediately sent a delegation to negotiate a halt to those plans that had circled Monday, June 10, as the start date for those tariffs … now on hold to ensure results are delivered.
