Shawn Brooks, who was accused by the left-wing Daily Beast of creating a “Drunk Nancy Pelosi” video meme, is looking to sue the website for misquoting him, false reporting, and essentially doxxing him.
Brooks is a regular Joe who drives a forklift by day and anonymously runs some sports-talk and conservative news pages on Facebook in his free time. He is a proud young Trump supporter and he is black.
His anonymity has taken a big hit as the result of the Daily Beast (DB) article that posted on Saturday entitled, “We Found the Guy Behind the Viral ‘Drunk Pelosi’ Video.”
Needless to say, for a conservative living in the Bronx, being identified as an enemy of the liberal cause is no small threat to his safety and well-being. “I’m in New York City,” he said. “Very liberal. People make judgments … People are nasty. You should see some of the messages that are coming in.”
The DB author Kevin Poulsen was pretty proud of tracking down who he alleged was the Pelosi meme creator and revealing his identity. On Saturday, he tweeted, “I went looking for the Russian troll behind the ‘Drunk Pelosi’ viral video hoax. Turns out he’s an itinerant forklift operator from the Bronx who’s been secretly running hard-right ‘news’ outlets across social media for years. Also, not Russian.”
He may not be so proud of that after he gets served with legal papers.
Brooks posted to Instagram: “So as many will see that an article of me has been posted online by a left leaning site called the daily beast. I’m being accused of creating the Pelosi video that went viral. I am one of the admins of the page but i DID NOT CREATE THE VIDEO NOR DID I POST IT to the Politics WATCHDOG page. They need a fall guy and they choose me because of my background.”
Brooks has started a GoFundMe page called the Shawn Brooks Legal Action Fund. The page is trending and donations exceed $4000 in only 18 hours. The page reads:
I’m looking at my options for possible legal action against anyone who was associated in publishing that inaccurate trash article about me, misquoting me and accusing me of being the creator of the Speaker Pelosi video that went viral.
UPDATE: I see some people are wondering why I put 10,000. I’m not aware of the cost because I’m still in discussions with Lawyers. That was just a number I set. I will keep everyone updated on the finances. Just bare with me please. Thank you
Fortunately, Brooks is not battling the left all by himself …
