A photo of reality star Kim Kardashian West being embraced by death row inmate Kevin Cooper last week at San Quentin State Prison in California is causing pain for the mother of the 11-year-old boy Cooper was convicted of killing.
Kardashian visited the prison last week as part of her efforts to exonerate the death row inmate.
In tweeted the photo to her 60.8 million followers, Kardashian added: “I had an emotional meeting with Kevin Cooper yesterday at San Quentin’s death row. I found him to be thoughtful and honest and I believe he is innocent of the crimes for which he was convicted.”

But the reality star isn’t the only one feeling emotional over the visit.
Mary Hughes, the mother of the deceased boy, said she was disgusted by the photo.
“It makes me feel sick to my stomach and I pity her. For what she’s doing to us, there’s nothing to justify what she’s doing to us, the immense pain she is causing us,” Hughes told TMZ.com.
Hughes told the tabloid Kardashian “obviously has not read all of the actual evidence.”
“[S]he has bought into half-truths perpetrated by the defense,” she said. “If she actually sat down and read the transcripts of all the trials and appeals, she would be sick to her stomach to be in the same room with him.”
As TMZ reported, her 11-year-old son, Christopher, was sleeping over at a neighbor’s home in Chino Hills in 1983 when he was murdered. Cooper was convicted of using a hatchet to kill Christopher, the neighbors, Doug and Peggy Ryen, and their daughter Jessica.
The Ryens’ 8-year-old son survived the attack.
Kardashian has embraced the cause of helping non-violent drug offenders get their sentences reduced.
After a meeting with President Donald Trump in 2018, Kardashian celebrated Trump granted clemency to Alice Marie Johnson, who was serving a life sentence for eight non-violent drug offenses.
Cooper has long insisted that he was framed for the crimes he was convicted of and Kardashian has used her celebrity status to successfully lobby California Gov. Gavin Newsom to order additional DNA testing in Cooper’s case, hoping the results will show Cooper is innocent, TMZ reported.
Kardashina also appealed to former Gov. Jerry Brown last year to intervene.

Hughes insists that Cooper is “100 percent guilty and the evidence shows it.”
She also said a woman who claims that Cooper raped her in 1982 testified against him during the murder trial.
“She portrays herself as being for women’s rights and for the women’s movement and yet she is supporting a rapist and a murderer,” Hughes told TMZ.
Saying that Kardashian “has not reached out to us,” Hughes added that she has no desire to speak with the reality star because of the pain she is putting her through.
“I would not even want to talk to her,” Hughes said. “My opinion of her is about as low as it goes because of what she’s putting my family through … dragging this through the press on a non-stop basis.”
