Biden’s role in Russia probe becomes clearer with resurfaced ‘odd’ email from Susan Rice

As President Donald Trump and Attorney General William Barr have promised to get to the bottom of the controversial Russia probe into the president, his administration and his former presidential campaign, more and more facts are coming to light about the origins of the probe in the Obama administration.

One person who could be facing new scrutiny is Joe Biden, the former vide president. A new report from Breitbart News shines a light on Biden’s involvement with the Russia probe, which could factor into the 2020 presidential election heavily — Biden is one of many Democrats looking to challenge Trump.

Biden was documented as being present at a meeting about the Russia probe that included Barack Obama, ex-FBI chief James Comey, Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates, former National Security Advisor Susan Rice, as well as other senior officials.

What makes this meeting really curious is that it was documented through an email Rice sent to herself two weeks after the meeting took place. Rice sent the email to herself on Donald Trump’s inauguration day on January 20, 2017 and it mostly contains language that defends Obama as keeping the probe “by the book.”

Rice specifically said that Obama started the “the conversation by stressing his continued commitment to ensuring that every aspect of this issue is handled by the Intelligence and law enforcement communities ‘by the book.’”

She later added “by the book” again.

“The President stressed that he is not asking about, initiating or instructing anything from a law enforcement perspective. He reiterated that our law enforcement team needs to proceed as it normally would by the book,” she wrote.

She finished up the email writing, “From a national security perspective, however, President Obama said he wants to be sure that, as we engage with the incoming team, we are mindful to ascertain if there is any reason that we cannot share information fully as it relates to Russia.”

This email came under the spotlight last year when then-Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley wrote a letter to Rice calling the email she sent to herself about the meeting “odd.”

“It strikes us as odd that, among your activities in the final moments on the final day of the Obama administration, you would feel the need to send yourself such an unusual email purporting to document a conversation involving President Obama and his interactions with the FBI regarding the Trump/Russia investigation,” he wrote.

He continued, “If the timestamp is correct, you sent this email to yourself at 12:15 pm, presumably a very short time before you departed the White House for the last time.”

As the Mueller report becomes more and more irrelevant by the day — except to extremist Dems — what becomes more relevant is the question of the origins of the Russia probe and whether it was politically motivated and biased. As Barr looks into the start of the investigation, these facts and who was involved need to be looked at with new scrutiny, especially considering the scrutiny Trump was under during the investigation into him.

Previous reports say Biden was one of the few Obama senior officials involved in secretive meetings about the Russia investigation. Barr has commented that a small group of senior officials handled the investigation abnormally by not being as open about their process or motivations.

“The thing that’s interesting about this is that this was handled at a very senior level of these departments. It wasn’t handled in the ordinary way that investigations or counterintelligence activities are conducted. It was sort of an ad hoc, small group — and most of these people are no longer with the FBI or the CIA or the other agencies involved,” said Barr in a recent interview with Fox News.

He continued, “I think there’s a misconception out there that we know a lot about what happened. The fact of the matter is, Bob Mueller did not look at the government’s activities.”

Biden previously defended this secrecy while talking to the Council on Foreign Relations.

“The bottom line was it was tricky as hell. It’s easy to say now, well maybe we should have said more. But I’ll ask you a rhetorical question — can you imagine if the President of the United States called a press conference in October … and said, ‘Tell you what, the Russians are trying to interfere with our elections and we have to do something about it.’ What do you think would have happened?” he said.

Whatever the case may be, there will be more and more reports coming out that shed light on an investigation that previously worked for some time in the dark. And with that investigation coming up with nothing to charge Trump with, Biden’s involvement will become a central issue as he tries to challenge Trump for the presidency.
