Hours after President Donald Trump vowed to impose a 5% tariff on goods coming into the United States from Mexico, Mexican President Lopez Obrador folded like a cheap lawn chair and begged for a meeting to resolve the trade war before it escalates.
Reuters tweeted: “Mexico’s President Lopez Obrador asks Trump to have U.S. officials meet with the Mexican foreign minister in Washington on Friday to seek a solution that benefits both nations.”

Mexico promised to stem flow of illegals but hasn’t
President Trump threatened to impose the tariff to pressure Mexico to step up and stem the tsunami of illegal immigrants flooding the U.S. border from Central America.
Shortly after being elected in December 2018, Mexican president Lopez Obrador promised to detain the migrant caravans instead of giving them passage through Mexico en route to the United States. Specifically, López Obrador promised to give all Central American migrants a work visa to stay in Mexico.
However, Obrador has apparently not followed through on his promise, even though Trump gave Mexico financial incentives to halt the barrage of illegal aliens stampeding toward the U.S. border.
Mexico doesn’t want the illegal immigrants either
The fact is, Mexico does not want to keep the illegal aliens because it doesn’t want to care for them financially.
Mexico would rather make the United States a dumping ground for unskilled migrants since it’s afraid this horde will drain their economy, as it does America’s.
The brouhaha erupted yesterday after President Trump tweeted: “On June 10th, the United States will impose a 5% Tariff on all goods coming into our Country from Mexico, until such time as illegal migrants coming through Mexico, and into our Country, STOP.”
He continued: “The Tariff will gradually increase until the Illegal Immigration problem is remedied, at which time the Tariffs will be removed.”

President Trump said that Mexico must step up and stem the migrant onslaught. If not, he vowed to halt US financial aid to Mexico — a hefty financial package that totals $320 million a year.
The US has given $2.6 billion in financial aid to Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador since 2014. President Trump has threatened to cut off that gravy train, and to close the border permanently if the migrant caravans continue their invasions.
100,000 illegals caught at border in March alone
While Democrats and the left-wing media gaslight the public by falsely claiming there is no crisis at the US border, in reality, the United States is being flooded with illegal aliens who become long-term financial burdens on American taxpayers.
In April 2019, the Trump White House warned that the current situation at the southern border “presents a border security and humanitarian crisis that threatens core national security interests and constitutes a national emergency.”
In March alone, 100,000 illegal aliens were caught sneaking across the U.S. border. At that rate, 1.2 million illegal immigrants would enter the country every year. This is something that Democrats want, because they want to increase their voting bloc. Even if it means burdening U.S. taxpayers.
Trump wants to prioritize high-skilled immigrants
As BizPac Review reported, President Trump proposed a merit-based immigration system that prioritizes high-skilled workers and requires immigrants to pass a civics test before entering the US. They must also learn English and not become a long-term financial burden to American taxpayers.
Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom all have merit-based immigration systems. Why shouldn’t the United States? No one is calling these other countries racist for wanting to select the cream of the crop to enter their countries.
After decades of letting unskilled immigrants leech off (rather than contribute) to the U.S. economy, President Trump set new parameters that would bolster the economy and benefit all Americans.
Ilhan Omar: Latinos are too stupid for a merit-based system
Predictably, leftists like Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar slammed the policy as racist.
Omar posted (and then deleted) a racist tweet suggesting that Latinos would never make up the cut under a merit-based immigration system. Why? Because she apparently thinks they’re too dumb and unskilled to make the cut.
In response, Cuban-American Senator Ted Cruz shut the Somalian refugee down on Twitter.
