Country music star John Rich debuts the song America needs on Fox News: ‘Shut Up About Politics’

Country star John Rich debuted his new single “Shut Up About Politics” on Fox News’ “The Five” this week and the song is already soaring on the charts.

Rich performed the single with the help of the hosts of “The Five.” Co-host Greg Gutfeld even helped pen the song with the country music legend.

“We had the chat about it would be fun to come up with a song when you guys came to Nashville and you [Gutfeld] said, ‘I’ll send you some ideas,” said Rich about the origins of the tune.

He continued, “You had some really good lines and ‘shut up about politics’ was in there and so I pulled that one out and built the song.”

The song is not one Rich is doing for the sake of profits. He revealed on “The Five” that all proceeds from the tune are being donated to Folds of Honor, a charitable organization that helps to give scholarships to the children and spouses of fallen American soldiers.

“Well, we thought if we’re going to go through this whole process of recording it, why not go ahead and put it up online where people can download it? It’s 99 cents and 100 percent of that 99 cents goes to these guys — to Folds of Honor,” Rich said about the proceeds being donated.

“Shut Up About Politics” is the exact comedic breather this divided country needs from the endless barrage of political noise we are assaulted with on a daily basis. Rich’s song is a call to arms for people who want to judge each other not based on their political beliefs, but everything else in life that matters so much more.

Rich gives a shoutout to the “Green New Deal” in his song and even recommends people reach across the political aisle by sharing a glass of his very own whiskey, Redneck Riviera.

Rich describes politics as “nothing but a big pile of dirty tricks” in the tune.

“I’m tired of all the fighting and b****in’ fits, so shut up about politics,” he continues.

Another great line is: “You punch left and I punch right. We’re caught up in the middle of a deep swamp fight. Some people lie. Some people steal. And everybody’s talking about the Green New Deal.”

Rich is not as politically outspoken as other celebrities, but he’s considered a conservative and a strong supporter of the Second Amendment and the military. He has even visited the White House while President Donald Trump has been in charge. He previously had a relationship with Trump from winning the fourth season of the reality competition series “The Celebrity Apprentice.”

John Rich has released previous songs that deal with political happenings, but he mainly tackles them from an agenda-free perspective. “Shuttin’ Down Detroit,” released in 2009, brought the struggles of Detroit, Michigan to light and the music video featured stars with varying political views like Mickey Rourke and Kris Kristofferson. Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) praised the tune at the time as one of his favorite country songs.
