Rudy Giuliani, personal attorney to President Trump, reacted on Fox News to Robert Mueller’s press conference on Wednesday by saying, Mueller’s Russia probe was a “waste of two years.”

Mueller gave an explosive statement to the press at the Department of Justice  Wednesday morning, stating, “Our investigation is complete. We are formally closing the special counsel’s office and as well I am resigning from the Department of Justice to return to private life.”

His statement was also ambiguous in several instances where he left Democrats room for their continuing efforts to attack the President and potentially to use Congress as a means for further investigation. Specifically, he made a point of his perceived inability to indict a sitting president with a federal crime. He said they did not make a determination in that regard, adding the law does not allow them to accuse the commander-in-chief of a crime even in a private report.

Giuliani commented, “If you take that analysis that he can’t indict, and he can’t give an opinion, then the reality is we just wasted two years. He did give an opinion. And his opinion is no collusion, no obstruction.”

Giuliani appeared on “The Story with Martha McCallum” immediately following host Ed Henry interviewed Rep. Eric Swalwell who claimed that questions remain around the topic of Russian election interference and that it is a “larger issue than Watergate.”

Laughing, Giuliani opened his remarks by taking aim at Swalwell and saying, “That can’t be a serious candidate for president … it’s pathetic.

“The idea that the Attorney General of the United States can turn information over to them and not be in violation of the law … it’s just a fiction that they’re all presenting to the American people. They’re just lying to the American people,” Giuliani said.

“Mueller today just said what the report said … not a single new fact, no smoking gun, not even a single new nuance. It’s the same old story. End result for a prosecutor, which obviously he’s not very good at, in, number one–no collusion. Immediately what that says to you is that we just had two-and-a-half years of two investigations that were entirely unfair, a waste of taxpayer money, and certainly justifies a man defending himself.”

Giuliani spoke about the history of modern civilization and the requirement that guilt be proven and that innocence must be assumed until that is done, and that Mueller’s comments to the room on Wednesday addressed that. “Insufficient evidence means he can’t meet the burden for an indictment. The burden for indictment is probable cause. It’s not reasonable doubt. He can’t get to the level of even making a charge. Do you know what that means every place else in America under American law unless you want to change it? It means you are not guilty,” Giuliani said.

“This guy [Swalwell] who wants to be president of the United States wants to flip all of that and what he wants to do is presume the president guilty. He has been saying the president is guilty for two or three years. What a phony.”

Giuliani was not alone in his assessment. Fox News’ Brit Hume and Town Hall’s Guy Benson were among many who chimed in on Twitter about the colossal waste of time, energy and tax dollars:
