Rep. Justin Amash may have enjoyed a standing ovation at a Michigan town hall after he called to impeach President Donald Trump, but one MAGA-hat wearing woman unloaded on the Republican for his betrayal.
Amash defended his conservative record during the town hall in Grand Rapids even as one woman, wearing a Make America Great Again hat confronted him for defecting from the Republican Party as he is the first member of his party to call for Trump’s impeachment.
“I haven’t changed, I’m who I said I was. I’m a principled, constitutional conservative,” the Michigan congressman countered after the woman blasted him because he “drank the same Kool Aid” and become a Democrat.
The woman unloaded on the lawmaker and criticized Robert Mueller’s report as a “smear attack” which Democrats are using as they usually personally attack and destroy anyone who does not “go along with what they say.” She remarked that the audience seemed to be made up of “more supporters for you than Trump supporters,” which elicited applause from the crowd.
“I’ve been your supporter since you started running for Congress, and I can’t tell you how disappointed I am,” she said as she was repeatedly interrupted.
Amash had to tell one heckler to “please calm down,” as he reminded the crowd to “be respectful.”
The only Congressional Republican who has backed impeachment proceedings against Trump rebutted the woman’s comments, pointing to his record while addressing her criticism of Mueller’ report.
“I heard you talk about the Mueller report but you haven’t stated in any facts. What are the facts you’re disputing?” he asked.
At another point in the town hall, Amash attacked GOP leadership in the House, criticizing Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy as the “so-called leader” while arguing that Mueller’s report revealed impeachable behavior by the president.
Amash takes a swing at his “so-called leader,” @GOPLeader, who had accused him of seeking attention w his Trump tweets. “I read the Mueller report. I’m sure he didn’t read it. He resorted to ad hominem attacks; that’s the kind of ‘leadership’ we now have in Congress.”

“I’m confident that if you read volume two, you will be appalled at much of the conduct. And I was appalled by it. And that’s why I stated what I stated. That’s why I came to that conclusion,” he said. “We can’t let conduct like that go unchecked.”

McCarthy has been critical of Amash, a founding member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, for being “out of step with this conference” and “out of step with America.”
But many at the town hall in Grand Rapids, his first since calling for impeachment, seemed to support the congressman who was praised Tuesday by Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Kamala Harris.
“What he has done is what we need more people in the United States Congress to do, which is to put country before party,” Harris said at a town hall in Spartanburg, S.C., according to The Hill.
The Republican National Committee, along with GOP lawmakers, have denounced Amash’s claims that Trump had reached the “threshold for impeachment.”
“It’s sad to see Congressman Amash parroting the Democrats’ talking points on Russia. The only people still fixated on the Russia collusion hoax are political foes of President Trump hoping to defeat him in 2020 by any desperate means possible,” RNC Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel said.
Trump has slammed the Michigan Republican as a “lightweight” who was making his accusations “for the sake of getting his name out there through controversy.”
Never a fan of @justinamash, a total lightweight who opposes me and some of our great Republican ideas and policies just for the sake of getting his name out there through controversy. If he actually read the biased Mueller Report, “composed” by 18 Angry Dems who hated Trump,….

….he would see that it was nevertheless strong on NO COLLUSION and, ultimately, NO OBSTRUCTION…Anyway, how do you Obstruct when there is no crime and, in fact, the crimes were committed by the other side? Justin is a loser who sadly plays right into our opponents hands!
