‘Not in my backyard’: NYTs runs op-ed on ‘unlivable’ conditions in Dem-run cities, due to hypocritical progressives

The problem with the “unlivable” conditions of Democrat-run cities isn’t that that the citizens there must endure the effects, after all, they voted for the leadership they have, it’s that the Democratic Party wants to impose those same conditions on the rest of the country.

But then, Winston Churchill nailed it when he spoke of socialism’s inherent virtue being “the equal sharing of misery.”

The New York Times, of all newspapers, ran an op-ed authored by Farhad Manjoo that highlighted the “unlivable” conditions in many American cities, including San Francisco, the hometown of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

Unfortunately, the piece is about how progressive elites react to the problems they face and not about their failed policies that created the problems — in this case, the generous welfare network that subsidizes homelessness, not to mention sanctuary city policies that serve as an enticement for foreign nationals.

Titled “America’s Cities Are Unlivable. Blame Wealthy Liberals,” Manjoo wrote about the “developing-world nightmare” unfolding in the Golden State, where he lives.

“To live in California at this time is to experience every day the cryptic phrase that George W. Bush once used to describe the invasion of Iraq: “Catastrophic success.” The economy here is booming, but no one feels especially good about it,” he wrote. “When the cost of living is taken into account, billionaire-brimming California ranks as the most poverty-stricken state, with a fifth of the population struggling to get by. Since 2010, migration out of California has surged.”

With homelessness reaching epidemic levels, Manjoo points out the high number of billionaires in San Francisco and “the annual household income necessary to buy a median-priced home now tops $320,000.”

Yet, a bill to expand affordable housing failed to move this year in the state legislature — that is firmly in the hands of the Democratic Party — Manjoo noted.

Of course, if liberals really want an answer to California’s ‘jaw-dropping’ homeless epidemic, Donald Trump Jr. has the perfect solution and it won’t cost millions.

On “America’s Newsroom” Thursday, Fox Business Network anchor Cheryl Casone characterized this assessment as a “not-in-my-backyard” mentality coming from liberal elites.

“Then you have billionaires that say, ‘we don’t want a homeless shelter in our neighborhood,” Casone said “We want you to deal with the homeless, but can you ship them over to Pleasanton or the East Bay.'”

Mo Elleithee, the former DNC communications director, applied liberal logic after acknowledging that American cities are thriving.

“But the more they thrive economically, the less livable they become,” he declared, pointing to gentrification.

Casone lived in San Francisco for seven years and said teachers and police officers can’t afford to live in the city, but city officials give out “checks to the homeless.”

(And they can’t seem to grasp why the ranks among the homeless continue to grow.)

Daily Caller editor-in-chief Chris Bedford pointed to the “lawlessness” in liberal cities as a contributing factor to the poor conditions there — Seattle and Portland come to mind.
