White House Counselor Kellyanne Conway had a very interesting moment with Speaker Nancy Pelosi yesterday after the much-publicized meeting when President Trump cut it short. And a hilarious response by Pelosi herself according to Conway’s description of the back-and-forth is enough to leave anyone shaking their head at Pelosi’s ego.

Responding to a reporter’s question about the end of the meeting and the terse exchange that had been reported between Conway and Pelosi, Conway explained: “I treated her the way I treat you (gesturing toward the reporter) … I started out saying, respectfully, ‘Madame Speaker, would you like to address the specific points the President raised?’

“She did what she does all the time, which is (shows how she dismissingly waved her hand) … ‘I talk to the President, not to staff’ because after all, she thinks we’re all staff. She’s the sixth or so richest member of Congress, and behaves that way. She treats me as she may treat her maid or her pilots or her makeup artist or her wardrobe consultant.

“All then I told her, was ‘Oh it’s so pro-woman of you.'”

“My whole point was, the President spoke for three minutes,” Conway said, “and was very specific about why he was turning around and walking out very calmly. She didn’t address any of that. She did what she often does … was get off topic, way off message. She started talking about Thomas Jefferson and Teddy Roosevelt … we may be here awhile and what they had done with infrastructure. So everybody let her finish … No idea what that was about. Then I filled the air by saying respectfully, Madame Speaker, which the way I started out–I always show great respect because I always do. I was raised by a woman from Waterford [New Jersey], so I show everybody respect … even when they don’t show me respect.”

“That’s all she had to say, and then she stormed out. But I will tell you that there were Democrats who looked like they wanted to stay and at least had a conversation with Secretary Mnuchin or Director Kudlow or any of us.

“Just to say, Chuck Schumer had his 35 page plan … leave it on the desk,” Conway said. “Email it. I could go get it myself right now if he actually has a 35 page plan that he wants us to see. Why is it a secret?”

Humorously, and this would seem to be the punchline to the whole episode … Pelosi herself confirmed Conway’s description of the Speaker’s elitist attitude when another reporter tried to tell her what Conway said about her. Pelosi interrupted the reporter, holding up her hand dismissively, saying, “I’m not going to talk about her. I responded as a Speaker of the House to the President of the United States. Other conversations people want to have among themselves is up to them.”
