Bernie Sanders says there there is ‘no choice’ but to impeach ‘pathological liar’ Trump

Impeachment is becoming and a more and more popular term for Democrat lawmakers. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) is the latest to pander to the extreme left by coming out in support of impeaching President Donald Trump.

In a Thursday tweet, Sanders called Trump a “pathological liar” and said the president does not “understand the Constitution,” which is rich coming from a socialist like Sanders.

“It is obvious that the President is a pathological liar who does not understand the Constitution. The fact is that if Mr. Trump continues to disregard the right of Congress to subpoena, he will leave House Members with no choice but to begin an impeachment inquiry,” tweeted Sanders.

This is Sanders’ harshest language regarding potential impeachment so far. Just one day before the tweet, he seemed to be warming to the idea. In a Wednesday interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper, Sanders said it “may be time” for the House Judiciary Committee to begin impeachment proceedings.

“I do understand where House members are coming from. And you’ve got this guy who is refusing to respect the Constitution, equal powers, and is rejecting requests for members of the administration to come forward,” Sanders said. “So, you know, I think it may be time at least to begin the process through the Judiciary Committee to determine whether or not there are impeachment proceedings.”

What makes Sanders’ position here feel a little empty is that not long ago he was one of the few Democrats giving pushback to liberals obsessed with finding any reason to impeach Trump. He said during a town hall last month that the intense focus on impeachment could work to Trump’s “advantage” in 2020, which is when Sanders is hoping to challenge Trump for the presidency.

“If for the next year, year and a half going right into the heart of the election, all that the Congress is talking about is impeaching Trump and Trump, Trump, Trump, and Mueller, Mueller, Mueller,” Sanders said in the town hall, which was aired on CNN. “What I worry about is that works to Trump’s advantage.”

Sanders also said focusing on impeachment could mean the Democrat Party is ignoring “the issues that concern ordinary Americans.”

Democrats have focused in the last few days on the fact that various people tied to Trump have ignored subpoenas to testify before the House Judiciary Committee. A legal memo from the Department’s Justice Office of Legal Counsel though states that Congress can not force Trump advisors to testify.

“Congress may not constitutionally compel the President’s senior advisers to testify about their official duties,” the memo reads.

This is on top of the Mueller report officially clearing President Donald Trump of the collusion with Russia during the 2016 presidential election that he was originally accused of.

Sanders should take advice from the Sanders that was running for president a month ago. This focus on impeachment only pushes the Democrat Party further and further into the extreme. The president has already made it clear that he will not work with Democrats while they engage in “phony investigations” and this means Democrats are only hurting everyday Americans with their obsession with the fantasy of impeaching Trump.
