Ben Carson fired back at criticism from Rep. Ilhan Omar for mocking him while also taking a shot at her and other Democrats over their abortion support.
The Housing and Urban Development secretary called out the freshman congresswoman after her mocking tweet about his testimony before the House Financial Services Committee on Tuesday, an appearance that subjected him to much criticism and scorn from the left.
“Not sure he was fully awake, maybe he meant to reclaim his time back to sleep,” the Minnesota Democrat tweeted about an exchange during the hours-long hearing in which Carson was being questioned by Rep. Ayanna Pressley.

The heated moment came as the Massachusetts Democrats discussed potential effects on federally-subsidized housing residents made by cuts made to the HUD budget.

Carson’s request for time was denied and the moment became the focus of Omar’s tweet. But Carson, the former director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center and a well-known brain surgeon before stepping into politics, shot back at the lawmaker.
“Since you brought it up… I know what it’s like to actually be sleepy, especially after 18-hour surgeries and operating on babies in the womb,” he wrote.
Since you brought it up… I know what it’s like to actually be sleepy, especially after 18-hour surgeries and operating on babies in the womb. I hope @IlhanMN knows I care about all people, even those she doesn’t recognize as having a right to life. https://t.co/BRl3ibSKM3

He also took a jab at Omar for her stance on abortion. “I hope @IlhanMN knows I care about all people, even those she doesn’t recognize as having a right to life.”
Reacting to abortion laws being passed in many states such as Alabama, Omar had been very vocal in her opposition.
“Women’s rights are human rights,” she tweeted last week.
Women’s rights are human rights.
No child or woman should be forced to have pregnancy against her own will. These laws do not protect women’s rights it protects the violator committing these crimes.?https://t.co/MkGTEmqxox

During an interview on Fox Business, Carson slammed other Democrats who support late-term abortions that “slaughter” children outside of the womb.
Carson spoke to host Stuart Varney on “Varney & Co.” about the hypocrisy of Democrats criticizing his new HUD policy while supporting the murder of babies.

“Well you know, we have an obligation to follow the law, and Section 214 of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1980 says specifically that the HUD Secretary may not support housing for people who are not here legally,” he said, referring to the move by HUD to enforce the law and ban illegal immigrants from taking advantage of government housing, prioritizing the subsidies for American citizens and those in the country legally.
“So, what they’re asking me to do is violate the law. They have the ability to change the law,” Carson said, responding to criticism from Democratic lawmakers.
“What’s really interesting is how they try to make this emotional argument about children,” he added — referencing the recent debate over the legality of late-term abortions. “These are the same people who are for late-term abortions, who take a child who is viable outside of the womb and are willing to slaughter them. Now tell me how is that consistent?”
