‘Something strange is going on at Fox, folks!’ Trump doubles down at rally over network’s left turn

President Donald Trump, for the second time this week, questioned Fox News for the network’s town hall with South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, who is running for president.

Speaking Monday night at a rally in Montoursville, Pennsylvania — which Fox News aired live — the president referenced the event, calling Buttigieg, the first openly gay presidential candidate, “Alfred E. Neuman” again — this being the fictional character that serves as the mascot of Mad Magazine.

“What’s going on with Fox, by the way? What’s going on there?” Trump asked. “They’re putting more Democrats on than you have Republicans. Something strange is going on at Fox, folks! Something very strange!”

“Did you see this guy last night?” the president continued. “I did want to watch — you always have to watch the competition, if you call it that — and he was knocking the hell out of Fox! And Fox put him on. Somebody’s going to have to explain the whole Fox deal to me.”

Trump was referencing Buttigieg ripping on Fox News opinion hosts Tucker Carlson and Laura Ingraham, by name, during Sunday night’s town hall.

“A lot of people in my party were critical of me doing this, and I get where that’s coming from, especially when you see what goes on with some of the opinion hosts on this network,” Buttigieg told Fox News host Chris Wallace, before naming names.

Wallace ignored the attack on his colleagues, but while he may have let “Mayor Pete” get away it, “Fox & Friends” co-host Brian Kilmeade was having none of it.

Kilmeade blasted Buttigieg for criticizing his colleagues.

“Don’t hop on our channel and continue to put down the other hosts on the channel, or the channel,” he said. ” If you feel that negative about it, don’t come.”

It’s difficult to criticize the network for airing events that showcase candidates running for president, Democratic or Republican, but critics might argue that Fox News seems to be going out of its way to prove to other Democratic candidates that they can expect kid-glove treatment — Wallace didn’t do much to dispel this argument.

But then, he has been involved in little dust-ups with both Carlson and Ingraham.

Fox News has also aired town halls with Sens. Bernie Sanders and Amy Klobuchar, each running to be the Democratic Party nominee in 2020. Trump took to Twitter in April to say how “weird” it was to see “Crazy Bernie” on Fox News.

The president criticized the network Sunday on Twitter leading up to the Buttigieg town hall, saying that Fox News is trying to work their way back into the Democratic presidential debates — the Democratic National Committee dumped Fox News back in March.

Trump also took a pot shot at Chris Wallace, a registered Democrat, for his effusive praise of Buttigieg.

“ON Hard to believe that is wasting airtime on Mayor Pete, as Chris Wallace likes to call him. Fox is moving more and more to the losing (wrong) side in covering the Dems. They got dumped from the Democrats boring debates, and they just want in. They forgot the people…

“…who got them there. Chris Wallace said, “I actually think, whether you like his opinions or not, that Mayor Pete has a lot of substance…fascinating biography.” Gee, he never speaks well of me – I like Mike Wallace better…and Alfred E. Newman will never be President!”

As for Monday night’s rally, as seen in the photos below shared by President Trump, a massive crowd turned out to see him.
