CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin has a meltdown over Bill Barr’s Fox News interview: ‘Sean Hannity is the attorney general!’

CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin had a bit of a meltdown on “The Situation Room” on Friday. Toobin was not happy with an interview between Bill Hemmer and Attorney General William Barr that had aired on Fox News earlier in the day.

In the interview, Barr went after Democrats who have accused him of contempt for his public summary of the Mueller report and for his refusal to testify before the House Judiciary Committee — he did already testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

“I think it’s largely being made to try to discredit me partly because they may be concerned about the outcome of a review of what happened during the election,” Barr said in the Fox interview.

The attorney general at one point also defended the president’s rhetoric in regards to the Mueller investigation. He specifically defended the president calling the investigation a “witch hunt” on multiple occasions, saying he would use wording like that too if he were “wrongly accused” of a crime.

“I was amazed by that interview and the one in the Wall Street Journal,” said Toobin after being brought on by host Wolf Blitzer.

Toobin went on to compare William Barr to Fox News host Sean Hannity, clearly implying that Barr is in some way working to protect President Trump.

“It turns out the attorney general is Sean Hannity, and Sean Hannity is the attorney general! I mean, every talking point from Fox News gets repeated!” said Toobin. “I just found it an absolutely astonishing couple of interviews.”

Toobin later said even Richard Nixon behaved better than Trump when dealing with authorities.

“I think we need to maintain the capacity to be outraged,” said Toobin, explaining that Trump’s harsh tweets on the Mueller investigation should not be taken lightly.

Toobin is not the only one critical of Barr’s recent interview.

Fox News’ own Chris Wallace said the attorney general is “clearly protecting” Trump.

“What really comes across to me most of all is that for two years Donald Trump sat there and said I don’t have an attorney general. I don’t have somebody out there looking for and protecting my interests. He clearly has that now with Bill Barr,” said Wallace.

The Fox News host added, “Not saying he’s not right in everything he says, but he clearly is protecting this president and advocating his point of view on a lot of these issues.”

MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace also called Barr the “most dangerous” person in the Trump administration. Like Toobin, she also made a connection between Barr and Hannity.

“I think Barr’s the most dangerous person that works for Donald Trump, because he has Donald Trump’s worldview, Sean Hannity’s worldview, but he oversees the Justice Department,” she said on MSNBC on Friday.

We are seeing Trump Derangement Syndrome in full effect right now. Barr is not giving Trump critics the results they want, so now they are using aggressive language to discredit him. In their world, anyone not fully onboard with their Trump conspiracy theories is “dangerous.”
