‘Young Turks’ co-host accuses Meghan McCain of lying about abortion beliefs, says she admitted ‘real views’ in private

“The Young Turks” co-host Ana Kasparian is claiming she knows for a fact that “The View” co-host Meghan McCain is not entirely honest with the public about her views on abortion.

Kasparian’s comments came in reaction to a recent episode of “The View” where McCain equated abortion with murder.

“I think you have to understand for pro-life women like me — which is a strong tenet of who I am I and how I view the world — is I believe abortion is murder,” said McCain. “The idea there is grey in allowing murder in the United States of America.”

McCain’s words were in response to actress Alyssa Milano trying — and failing — to start a “#sexstrike” in protest of the recent law passed in Georgia that says an abortion will not be legally performed if a heartbeat is detected inside the pregnant mother.

“I have a quick message for Meghan,” Kasparin said on “The Young Turks.” “Look, I just wish that you were honest about your real views on abortion.”

She continued, “Because her public statements about abortion are very different from her private statements about abortion. So, I’m just putting that out there, because I think it’s important for you to be honest, because women’s lives and livelihood is really being jeopardized here by you trying to win political brownie points by conservatives by saying things that you don’t actually believe.”

Co-host Cenk Uygur reacted in shock to Kasparin’s accusation.

“Wow,” he said.

“I know, shots fired, but I think it’s important to call out people’s dishonesty,” Kasparin replied.

Uygur later tried to get clarification on Kasparin’s statement.

“Apparently, they [Kasparin and McCain] had a private conversation where she did not share similar points of view about this,” Uygur said to his co-host.

“Correct,” she replied.

This is not the first time McCain’s views on abortion have kicked up controversy.

In an interview with Larry King in 2009, McCain said she is “personally pro-life,” but she would never judge another person for going through with an abortion or for being pro-choice.

“I personally am pro-life, but I’m not going to judge someone that’s pro-choice. It is not my place to judge other people and what they do with their body,” she said.

The “View” co-host also railed against forced ultrasound laws in 2012 while talking to MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow.

“It’s scary as a woman. I’m a young, single woman and I – the idea of this regressing back in the 1950s, and entering Pleasantville is quite daunting,” she said.

Many reacted to Kasparin’s story about McCain with disgust for both “The Young Turks” network and McCain, a commentator who is often labeled a RINO (Republican in name only).

“Meghan McCain is vile. So is TYT [The Young Turks],” responded one user on Twitter.

Another said, “Of course. Megan McCain is only a gimic.”

It appears it doesn’t really matter what McCain’s views on abortion are. Many conservatives have already made up their mind about the “View” co-host and the fact that she is perhaps not as committed to her views as others.
