White House introduces new tool to help people report political bias and banning on social media platforms

The White House is taking recent accusations of political bias by social media companies like Facebook and Twitter very seriously.

The White House announced on Wednesday the launch of a new tool that people can use to report suspected wrongful banning or suspension by social media companies.

“Too many Americans have seen their accounts suspended, banned, or fraudulently reported for unclear ‘violations’ of user policies,” the new site announces.

The site goes on to ask people who have been wronged by social media platforms to share their stories with President Donald Trump.

“No matter your views, if you suspect political bias caused such an action to be taken against you, share your story with President Trump,” it reads.

Twitter has responded to the new tool saying in a public statement, “We enforce the Twitter Rules impartially for all users, regardless of their background or political affiliation. We are constantly working to improve our systems and will continue to be transparent in our efforts.”

President Trump recently met with Twitter cofounder and CEO Jack Dorsey to discuss accusations of the social media site being politically biased against conservatives, as well as the company’s work to assist in fighting the opioid crisis.

The president has spoken out numerous times against political bias against conservatives, as have other Republicans.

“Something is happening with those groups of folks that are running Facebook, Google and Twitter,” said Trump in March during a joint press conference with Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro. “I do think we have to get to the bottom of it … It’s collusive and it’s very, very fair to say that we have to do something about it.”

He later told the press, “It’s different from what it used to be. Things are happening, names are taken off, people aren’t getting through. It seems to be if they’re conservative, if they’re Republicans, if they’re in a certain group, there’s discrimination, big discrimination.”

“The purposeful & calculated silencing of conservatives on Facebook & the rest of the Big Tech monopoly men should terrify everyone,” Donald Trump Jr. added on Twitter after Facebook announced it was banning commentators like InfoWars founder Alex Jones.

“If Zuckerberg is going to censor Facebook content, he’s just another newspaper editor,” argued Daily Wire founder Ben Shapiro in a separate opinion piece.

The White House’s new tool, which is hosted by Typeform, allows users to share screenshots and links of alleged bias or banning. They can also describe the situation in a text section. The user is also asked to choose the offending tech company: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, or other.

Some social media users have already expressed excitement over the new tool and some have even begun using it.

“I just reported my experience with #FaceBookCensorshipat at the new #WhiteHouse Website,” wrote one user.

“Those suspended on Twitter or Facebook can list themselves in a new White House website. This is for information gathering only. Do not expect a reply. Help the WH assess the problem. Pass it on,” wrote another.
