Democrat Nancy Pelosi — the Speaker of the House of Representatives — is meeting with U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer today — one day after President Trump received bipartisan backlash amid an escalating trade war with China that could hurt U.S. farmers in the Midwest.
The topic of the scheduled meeting is Trump’s new trade agreement with Canada and Mexico (the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, or USMCA). However, the tariff battle between China and the United States will undoubtedly be discussed at Pelosi’s meeting with Lighthizer.
“I wish him success in the negotiation [with China],” Pelosi told reporters on Monday. “But we have to use our leverage without antagonizing those who are on our side on this.”

Flashback: Canada caved when Trump played tough
As BizPac Review reported, under the USMCA deal, the United States gains greater access to the Canadian dairy market — a major sticking point behind Trump’s initial decision to exclude Canada from its trade deal with Mexico.
President Trump has repeatedly complained about Canada’s 270% tariff on U.S. dairy exports.
While Trump’s firm stance toward Justin Trudeau ended with Canada caving at the last minute, Pelosi and other Democrats are worried that being stubborn with China will be a losing battle for the United States.

Accordingly, Dems want Trump to cave to China. But that is a bad move, since China respects strength; it will mock Trump if he crumbles under pressure.
Pelosi will likely postpone USMCA vote to undermine Trump
The USMCA — a successor to the North American Free Trade Agreement — needs to be ratified by Congress, which means it must be approved by the Pelosi-led House of Representatives.
The Democrats want to modify the USMCA to make it less pro-America, but U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer says the Trump administration will not re-open negotiations.
Pelosi could obstruct President Trump by delaying the vote to ratify the USMCA past its summer deadline until the 2020 presidential elections — when it will put Trump on the defense.

Economic superpower China is a much bigger threat than Russia
Meanwhile, President Trump is coming under fire from both Democrats and Republicans about the ongoing tariff battle between the U.S. and China.
Specifically, senators from the Farm Belt claim that angry constituents are calling them to express concern that the tariffs will hurt their businesses.
“Ultimately, nobody wins a trade war unless there is an agreement at the end, after which tariffs go away,” said Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
While the Democrats have been screeching nonstop about the failed Russia collusion narrative for the past three years, they have totally ignored China: a much-larger threat to the United States than Russia.
Dems contrived Russia narrative to hurt Trump (and Americans)
Notably, Russia has a much smaller economy than China. For reference, Russia’s economy is the size of one U.S. state (Texas).
The Democrats’ contrived war on Russia (which it launched in a bid to undermine President Trump) has enabled China to become a mammoth economy that could soon dwarf and sink the United States.
Trump has taken a tough stance with China, in light of its decades of intellectual property theft and its real economic threat to the United States — in contrast to the faux, media-created threat of Russia.
But Democrats would rather see the United States fail under Trump than hand him a victory — even if it means hurting Americans. Good job, Dems! As always, you miss the forest for the trees.
