Authenticity appears to be in short supply over in the Democrat Party …
First, Democrat presidential candidate Sen. Elizabeth Warren tried to appear like one of the people by live-streaming herself drinking a beer. Then socialist Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez essentially got drunk on camera to presumably connect with her constituents (just speaking with them isn’t an option, apparently), though some might argue that’s how she always acts.
And now Democrat presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris has gone and done this:
— Douglas Emhoff (@douglasemhoff) May 12, 2019
Is she running to be the president or auditioning to play bootylicious chef Paula Deen in a movie!? To be fair, Harris didn’t tweet this herself. It was tweeted by her husband, Douglas Emhoff.
It was nevertheless ripe for mockery because it exuded so much inauthenticity. Why? For one, the apron seemed awfully clean and creased, almost as if it’d never been used before:
Damn, nobody thought to throw that apron in the dryer for 5 minutes before staging this photo?
— Jeffrey Voth (@Acuda4me) May 12, 2019
This is as phony and staged as Pocahontas drinking beer and welcoming her husband to his own kitchen.
— OCbeachGirl #KAG #Trump2020 (@jcforjc7) May 12, 2019
Lol how come every time politicians take pictures pretending to cook they still have those crease lines in their apron..almost as if it was just opened and never actually used before 🤔🤔
— Blobe (@blobespot) May 12, 2019
Ah yes the perfectly white apron that still has the crease in it from being in the package
— Orange Muppet Energy (@sunnyright) May 12, 2019
She should show us how to drink a beer next.

Photos like this are amazing. Keep them coming. It’s good for those of us who struggle to balance.
— Leigh Harrison Helberg (@LeighHelberg) May 12, 2019
Hmm, cleanest apron ever
— DF (@raechelshubby) May 12, 2019
LMBO… Brand NEW apron. Fully set-up and contrived… FAKE as hell. 🤣
— God Bless Texas (@GHalv) May 12, 2019
Wait, that apron still has packing folds on it…
— Matt Hay (@MattAHay) May 12, 2019
Never been worn apron, yep she’s a regular everyday house wife
— Daniel (@danielwesley0) May 12, 2019
The Twitter user “danielwesley0” had a point — it did seem as if the 2020 contender was trying to portray herself as the “everyday house wife” so as to drum up more support and votes. And it’s not as if other Democrats haven’t tried to pull the exact same stunt before.
Just three months ago fellow Democrat presidential candidate Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand literally cooked a meal for an Associated Press reporter for what basically turned out to be a photo shoot.
A widely mocked photo shoot, to be precise:
“I think the country recognizes that a mother will go through fire for her children,” @SenGillibrand told me in a recent interview. Here’s my look at how motherhood is at the core of her 2020 presidential campaign. https://t.co/7FmMTFfnOu

The apron still has the fold crease from when someone bought it for it for her this morning. 😂 https://t.co/jImlMu96fL
— Kathleen McKinley (@KatMcKinley) February 20, 2019
Almost as if you don’t know about folding an apron to store in a drawer.

Dovetailing back to Harris’s photo, social media users also noticed her odd neckwear, i.e.,the necklace of pearls she had around her neck. Who wears jewelry while cooking … ?
“The Progressive Female Candidate cooking her own mother’s day dinner,” one sarcastic social media user wrote. “In pearls. What is this, the 50s?”
It does seem odd, doesn’t it?
Look at this and other tweets below:
The Progressive Female Candidate cooking her own mother’s day dinner. In pearls.
What is this, the 50s?
— WhatAreWeEvenTalkingAbout (@_WhatAreWeEven_) May 12, 2019
#fake. Pearls and a “just out of the package” apron (see creases). 🤣 When is the last time you cooked dinner in pearls!?!
— Jenni 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 (@jenni_farber) May 12, 2019
What American mom cooks in dress clothes and pearls?
— Tmanfish (@Tmann72687526) May 12, 2019
My wife always wears her pearls & gold watch when “cooking” too.
— Don Long 🇺🇸 (@theDonaldLong) May 12, 2019
It’s a photo op carefully staged so at first you say “cool–she’s cooking. how down-to-earth” or “what horrible husband makes her cook on Mothers Day.”
But the pearls & creased apron say “I’m a serious politician with no time for this. Just checking the box 2019 media demands.”
— Parmesan & Pinot is Back (@ParmesanPinot) May 12, 2019
New apron, $5.29
Random spices, $12.75
Try to make Americans believe you prepare food wearing pearls, priceless
— Lucus McCain (@dixie_normas) May 12, 2019
Pro-tip: When staging photos to look “relatable”, remember to muck up the brand new, fresh-from-the-package apron. A tumble or three in the dryer would also help.
THIS is one of fakest bits of BS ever.
And lose the pearls. I mean, come ON.
How stupid are your supporters? pic.twitter.com/O3ZUioN0TU

Regarding the latter user’s question — “[h]ow stupid are your supporters” — well, not to judge, but those Americans who support Harris presumably also support her crazy ideas.
During a CNN town hall earlier this year, for instance, the 2020 contender endorsed plans to eliminate the fossil fuel industry and the private healthcare market. All that in just one night.
“I support a Green New Deal, and I will tell you why: Climate change is an existential threat to us, and we have got to deal with the reality of it,” she said when asked by an audience member about Ocasio-Cortez’s extremely radical “Green New Deal.”
The plan by the freshman congresswoman calls for wiping the fossil fuel industry out of existence and replacing all of America’s energy production with renewables within 10 years.
Not only is the plan unrealistic, but it would basically destroy society. It’s unclear why anyone with common sense and intelligence would support such a plan …
