Crenshaw exposes Dems by explaining ‘one of the most dishonest bills we have passed out of the House’

Rep. Dan Crenshaw called out the “dishonest” tactics used by Democrats in pushing a bill that supposedly protects Americans with pre-existing conditions.

The Texas Republican unpacked the details behind the bill and the actions by Democrats to mislead Americans into thinking Republicans are fighting against protecting health insurance for those with pre-existing medical conditions.

In what he called the “height of political cynicism,” Crenshaw exposed their motives in a video he posted to Twitter on Friday as he through the halls of his Washington, D.C. office in the Cannon House Office Building.

“Another day in Washington and you have to hear this one,” he said as he explained the “Protecting Americans with Pre-Existing Conditions Act of 2019,” which passed in the House this week.

Crenshaw waked as he began to read the text of the bill.

“Beginning April 1, 2019, the Secretary of Health and Human Services and the Secretary of the Treasury may not take any action to implement, enforce, or otherwise give effect to the guidance entitled ‘State Relief and Empowerment Waivers,’ and the Secretaries may not promulgate any substantially similar guidance or rule.”

“OK, from the text you can tell that has nothing to do with pre-existing conditions. So what does this have to do with?” the former United States Navy SEAL asked.

“What they’re referring to are 1332 waivers. What are 1332 waivers? These are basically innovation waivers allowed under the ACA,” he explained. “A lot of states have used them so far…they use them for reinsurance programs because what we found out was that reinsurance programs are a much more efficient way to protect people with pre-existing conditions.”

Crenshaw noted that the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as ObamaCare, requires that pre-existing conditions are protected through the exchanges. But this results in rising premiums for everyone.

“That’s why all of these states have actually changed their programs that they’ve innovated,” he said.

“The Trump administration saw this and they said, ‘Why don’t we make it even more flexible for states? Why don’t we give states even more flexibility to both protect people with pre-existing conditions, but do it in a way that doesn’t raise everybody’s premiums?'” Crenshaw went on.

The facts prompt a question, the lawmaker noted, as to why the bill would be name the way it is considering its content.

“This is the height of political cynicism,” he answered his own question.

“Democrats are trying to get people to think that we, as Republicans, are voting against this because they’re trying to get people to think that we’re against protection for pre-existing conditions,” Crenshaw said.

“That’s not true at all,” he explained. “We’re against bad policy. And this is both bad policy and political cynicism. It’s a lie, it’s dishonest, and it’s really sad to see.”

The congressman encouraged viewers to share the video and the truth about the Democrats’ false narrative. The video has been viewed over 346,000 times since he posted it on Friday and many Twitter users were grateful for the explanation.
