Liz Cheney accuses Dems on Judiciary Committee of ‘undermining our democracy and helping Putin’

During the House GOP leadership team’s weekly press conference Wednesday, House Republican Conference chair Liz Cheney accused congressional Democrats of undermining American democracy and aiding Russian President Vladimir Putin in the process.

“Clearly what the Democrats on the Judiciary Committee are doing is undermining our democracy and helping Vladimir Putin,” she said while flanked by House Minority Whip Steve Scalise and Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.

“If you look at what we know, and what we know from the Mueller report and other places, it’s absolutely clear the Russians have attempted — a number of them were indicted for attempting to influence, to undermine our democratic processes. And the Democrats on the Judiciary Committee are doing exactly what Vladimir Putin would do if he could.”

“They’re also abdicating their responsibility to uncover these very serious foreign efforts. And we know that they’re afraid that they cannot defeat President Trump and Republicans at the ballot box, and therefore they’re conducting these show trials in the Judicatory Committee that’s aimed at hurting the president … and it’s fundamentally undemocratic.”

Listen:

Did Cheney have a point about Democrats aiding Putin? The evidence suggests so.

The presser was held as the House Judiciary Committee was busy voting to hold Attorney General Bill Barr in contempt of Congress for not violating federal law and giving them unfettered access to special counsel Robert Mueller’s full report, including any confidential grand jury information.

That the AG would face potential punishment for not violating the law does seem bad for democracy. And anything bad for American democracy is by default good for Putin.

However, the Democrats’ alleged aiding and abetting appear to extend beyond the committee.

Within the past three years — which is about how long the Russian collusion delusion conspiracy theory (or coup) has existed — Democrats have proposed eliminating the Electoral Congress, proposed allowing illegal aliens to vote, proposed reducing the voting age to 16 and repeatedly questioned the validity of America’s state elections and America’s federal elections.

It’s Democrats — not the president or congressional Republicans — who’ve pursued these radical proposals that would genuinely undermine American democracy. But it’s also the Democrats who’ve promoted regressive identity politics, regressive political correctness, transgender pseudoscience and sexual promiscuity (even among children). These too are bad for democracy.

Just this week Democrat presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris suggested that defeated Georgia Democrat gubernatorial nominee Stacey Abrams and defeated Florida Democrat gubernatorial nominee Andrew Gillum are the rightful governors of Georgia and Florida, respectively.

“Let’s say this loud and clear: Without voter suppression, Stacey Abrams would be the governor of Georgia, Andrew Gillum is the governor of Florida,” she said.

Seeding distrust of America’s elections is not good for democracy. Nor is duping voters into believing “a new voting rights act” is needed because their votes are being suppressed (they’re not).

Conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh has long theorized that Democrats have been purposefully trying to undermine the legitimacy of elections for a sinister purpose.

“The American left and their accomplices … their objective is to have increasing doubt about the sanctity, the honesty, legitimacy of American presidential elections. They’re off to a running start on this. Virtually every election or any controversial issues that comes up now, the Russians are a factor, are they not? Or the Russians might be a factor,” he argued last summer.

Why are they seeding this doubt? Limbaugh believes their end goal is to eliminate all elections and consolidate power so that they become the one and only ruling party in America.

It’s just a theory. Granted, the theory does align well with Cheney’s assertion that it’s Democrats —  not Republicans — who have consistently been undermining American democracy.

It’s likewise the Democrats who’ve blocked the Trump administration’s efforts to secure the border and stop countless illegal aliens from streaming into the U.S. every single day.

“We have a crisis at the border. The president just sent a supplemental request to Congress so we can have more money for detention beds. … And the Democrats’ heads [are] in the sand,” Scalise noted his own speech Wednesday after taking the mic from Cheney.

“The committee of jurisdiction under Chairman Nadler’s mishandling of that committee has led to a kangaroo court where he just wants to focus on harassing the president and his family instead of focusing on the problems that our country is facing, including this crisis at the border.”
