Biden says Americans have an ‘obligation’ to pay for healthcare of ‘undocumented’ immigrants

Former Vice President Joe Biden appears to believe that Americans are obligated to pay for illegal aliens to receive the same healthcare benefits typically reserved for only actual citizens.

He certainly isn’t the first Democrat to tout such a viewpoint

While at a campaign stop-over in Los Angeles on Wednesday, the former vice president turned 2020 contender was specifically asked whether he believes illegal aliens “should be entitled to federal [healthcare-related] benefits” such as Medicare and Medicaid.

While Biden didn’t directly answer the question, the reply he offered did seem to indicate that he does indeed believe illegal aliens should be entitled to Medicare and Medicaid benefits.

Listen:

“I think that anyone who is in a situation where they’re in need of healthcare, regardless of whether they are documented or undocumented, we have an obligation to see that they are cared for,” he said. “That’s why I think we need more clinics around the country.”

Who should pay for that care? California Gov. Gavin Newsom has suggested that Americans should pay. After his inauguration in January, he specifically called for forcing every Californian to obtain health insurance, charging each Californian exorbitant premiums for that insurance and then using the money accrued to provide young illegal aliens with free health care. Does Biden feel similarly?

He continued by downplaying America’s growing border crisis and dismissing the disastrous consequences of unrestrained long-term illegal immigration.

“A significant portion of undocumented folks in this country are there because they’ve overstayed their visas,” he claimed. “It’s not people breaking down the gates coming across the border.”

That’s not necessarily correct. While there were reportedly 667,000 overstays in 2018, according to data from the Department of Homeland Security, a whopping 75,000+ illegal aliens were apprehended illegally crossing into the states in February alone. Assuming the rate remains constant (it appears to be increasing, in fact), the annual total may wind up topping a million.

“And so, the biggest thing we’ve gotta do in this is tone down the rhetoric,” he added. “We know why it’s happening. It’s to create fear and concern. ‘Why is your job in danger? Because of that.’ And then he describes them in very graphic, unflattering terms — that other, that immigrant. It’s ridiculous.”

He was presumably mocking the factually accurate rhetoric of President Donald Trump and conservatives in general, all of who’ve rightly noted that illegal immigration “depress[es] the wages and employment opportunities” of all Americans, particularly minorities.

Sadly, Biden’s stance on the border crisis is ubiquitous among the left. Liberal Democrats, for the most part, refuse to acknowledge that there’s a border crisis.

During a congressional hearing Wednesday, Rep. Dick Durbin repeatedly dismissed the information provided to him by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.

Nathalie R. Asher, the acting chief of ICE’s deportation branch, noted that 168,000 illegal alien “family members” alone have been apprehended since Dec 21 and complained that the agency was being forced to release them into the states because of a 2015 court ruling. She further warned that 87 percent of these illegal alien “family members” never return afterward for their court hearings.

U.S. Border Patrol Chief Carla Provost said the same.

“They have received the message loud and clear: Bring a child, you will be released,” she said, referring to both the 2015 court ruling and also a bipartisan omnibus bill signed into law earlier this year that made it easier for smugglers to exploit trafficked children.

“From interviews that we have done with the families we are apprehending, they are hearing that message loud and clear. They are hearing that from the smugglers, they are hearing that from the media down in the Northern Triangle.”

Durbin reportedly dismissed all of this.

Watch the full hearing below:

Senate Judiciary Committee ranking member Dianne Feinstein likewise denied the existence of a border crisis and claimed that “few [illegal aliens] are crossing illegally” into the states.

That was a lie.

“The administration is threatening to make the problem worse, not better, by building a wall and limiting asylum,” she added in yet another factually inaccurate statement.

ICE and U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials have confirmed that erecting a wall along the southern border would alleviate some of the crisis. Moreover, it’s a fact that America’s currently lax asylum laws are being abused left and right by those merely seeking jobs.

HERE’S WHAT YOU’RE MISSING …

None of these facts seemed to weigh on Democrats. Just like Biden, they refuse to acknowledge reality and would, it appears, rather score political points against the president instead.

“Trump’s policies have made the border less secure and have even undermined American values,” Durbin defiantly declared Wednesday, and despite being told by Provost that he was dead wrong.

Dovetailing back to Biden’s insinuation that illegal aliens deserve taxpayer-funded healthcare, those who disagree with this line of thinking were  quick to note so on social media:
