Eric Holder sparked a wave of eye-rolls for his stunning lack of self-awareness in slamming the “conduct” of Attorney General William Barr.
The former Obama-era attorney general announced he was “very wrong” in his initial assessment of Barr as a “lawyer for the American people,” complaining about his “unacceptable” behavior during Wednesday’s hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
“The conduct of AG Barr over the last few weeks and in the hearing today has been shown to be unacceptable,” Holder tweeted Wednesday.
“I thought he was an institutionalist, committed to both the rule of law and his role as the lawyer for the American people. I was very wrong. He is protecting the President,” he declared.

Holder, who became the nation’s first African-American attorney general and served under former President Barack Obama for six years, was soon called out on social media for forgetting his own scandal-laden past.
Conservative commentator Katie Pavlich summed up the irony in a tweet responding to Holder.
Oh spare us. You were the first sitting Attorney General to be voted in civil & criminal contempt by Democrats and Republicans while you were protecting President Obama, who asserted executive privilege to prevent Americans from knowing about your bloody Fast & Furious scandal. https://t.co/eTjJO0xe5W

“Oh spare us,” Pavlich wrote, citing Holder’s history and the infamous “bloody Fast & Furious scandal.”
The 68-year-old career prosecutor holds the dubious honor of being the only cabinet member in U.S. history to be held in contempt of Congress for refusing to release documents to the House Oversight Committee that pertained to the failed Justice Department sting operation known as Fast and Furious. The program allowed approximately 2,000 weapons from the U.S. to pass into the hands of suspected Mexican gun smugglers.
The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives lost track of most of the firearms in the gunrunning program which allowed criminals to buy weapons so they could be tracked. Two of those guns were found at the scene of US Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry’s death in 2010.
Holder’s legacy as Obama’s “wingman” was not forgotten on social media as many blasted him for his attack on Barr in light of his own controversial past.
Holder’s low opinion of President Trump’s attorney general echoed that of many of his Democratic colleagues who have leveled hateful criticism at Barr following his handling of the release of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report. Congressional Democrats have contended that Barr intentionally attempted to present Mueller’s findings in a way that was favorable to Trump.

And the controversy was further stoked by reports that Mueller was allegedly frustrated and contacted the attorney general about the summary of the report he issued just ahead of the report’s release.
Twitter users blasted Holder, advising him to “take a long hard look in the mirror.”

agreed it is terrible when the AG acts like the president’s “wingman” https://t.co/FswtRMmRWD

Holder of all people should recuse himself from this discussion. There was never an AG more in the tank for a #POTUS than Holder.

No self awareness.

And your conduct in obstructing the fast and furious investigation wasn’t ‘unacceptable’? Perhaps you should take a long hard look in the mirror. https://t.co/vvxeym0k9N
