Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez released a video on Wednesday which she called a “message from the future.”
In the video, the congresswoman claims that her controversial Green New Deal has saved the United States economy and ended concerns about global warming.
Cortez also says 2020 brings with it a “decade of the Green New Deal” thanks to Democrats taking the White House and both chambers of Congress.
The freshman congresswoman goes after oil companies like Exxon and says Democrats helped the country overcome “impossible odds.”
“Lots of people gave up, they said we were doomed,” says Cortez. “But some of us remembered that as a nation, we’d been in peril before — the Great Depression, WWII — we knew from our history how to pull together to overcome impossible odds.”
Cortez calls the Green New Deal “the kind of swing-for-the-fence ambition we needed.”
She adds, “Finally, we were entertaining solutions on the scale of the crises we faced without leaving anyone behind.”

Since introducing the Green New Deal with Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA), Cortez has faced heavy criticism for her climate change proposal.
The plan — which includes a “Medicare for all” plan, a federal jobs guarantee, and massive regulations — is estimated to cost over $90 trillion, according to an analysis by the think tank American Action Forum.
The Green New Deal hasn’t gotten much support from either major political party. Last month, 42 Democrats simply voted “present” on a measure to bring the Green New Deal to the floor for debate. Then 57 senators voted against breaking a filibuster.
The cost of her proposal is of no concern to Cortez. When recently asked about criticisms of her bill and the funding it will need, Cortez told MSNBC during a town hall that her critics simply sound like the “Austin Powers” character Dr. Evil, a goofy villain played by comedian Mike Meyers who tries to threaten the world with violence in order to make a fortune.
“They wave this wand and they say, ‘Oh, it’s going to cost a bazillion dollars — like they sound like Dr. Evil, ‘$100 million,'” Cortez said.
The congresswoman believes people need to start taking her proposal more seriously because, according to her, we have only “12 years left to cut emissions in half.”
“Climate change is here + we’ve got a deadline: 12 years left to cut emissions in half. A #GreenNewDeal is our plan for a world and a future worth fighting for. How did we get here? What is at stake? And where are we going?” Cortez tweeted when sharing her new video.

Cortez’s video does not appear to have turned critics into supporters.
“This is one of the most delusional, terrifying things I have ever seen in my life,” wrote one Twitter user in response to the “message from the future.”
“Perfect! Your half of the nation can stop using cars and airplanes to save the planet, and our side won’t have to deal with traffic anymore! Thanks AOC!” wrote another.
If Cortez’s Green New Deal did not prove she lives in a fantasy world then this bizarre video surely does.
